Evangeline Lilly In Talks For Lead Female Role On Ant-Man - Could She Be Marvel's Wasp?

Jay Cochran - February 06, 2014
THR reports that actress Evangeline Lilly (Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, Real Steel) is in early talks with the studio to be the lead female role in the upcoming Edgar Wright directed Ant-Man movie for Marvel. Though we know the part she is up for is a lead role in the movie, we do not know who she would be playing in it. The THR article does indicate that the character she would be playing is intended to be around for more than just this one movie. Whether that means she could appear in other Marvel movies like maybe Avengers, or just in a future Ant-Man sequel is unclear. The movie will also star Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, who in the comics is the second person to don the Ant-Man costume and Michael Douglas who will play Hank Pym, who in the comics is the original Ant-Man and is younger than Douglas is in real life.

Many people are guessing who Lilly could play, with the most popular guess being the character of Janet Van Dyne. In the comics Van Dyne was the one-time wife of Hank Pym and Avengers founding member The Wasp. If Lilly were to play Van Dyne in the movie, that would make her significantly younger than Hank Pym. This would be a good indication that the relationship dynamic between Pym and Van Dyne would be different in the movies from what we have seen in the comics. Perhaps in the movieverse, instead of being involved with the Hank Pym Ant-Man we will see her hooking up with the younger Scott Lang.

Ant-Man is slated to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
