Black Panther & Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Bring Home Oscars

Jay Cochran - February 25, 2019
If you missed it, and we wouldn't blame you if you did, the 2019 Oscars took place last night where both Disney's Black Panther and Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse brought home awards.

Black Panther got snubbed for best picture (did anyone really think a super hero movie was going to win that one?), but it did manage to win multiple awards for Original Score (Ludwig Goransson), Costume Design (Ruth E. Carter) and Production Design (Hannah Beachle).

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse walked away with the Best Animated Feature award.

What about Infinity Warlosing Special Effects to First Man. Makes no sense!

I didn't get the chance to see First Man, I really don't have an objective opinion on this one. Once I watch it, I'll let you know if I agree or not

Regardless if either movie deserved it, its nice to know superhero films could win these types of awards.

It was awards worthy and it took home the awards it deserved. Definitely not best movie candidate IMO, but neither is Infinity War. There's plenty more to consider when talking about awards than movie scope. The sociopolitical is incredibly tipping in this, though it shouldn't, but well... such is the world.

To say that deserved best picture is just crazy talk.

I agree, I loved black panther, but infinity war is much better.

I haven't seen into the spider verse yet, waiting to catch it on DVD, but lets not forget the politics of Hollywierd. Its a weird time in American politics and certain moves are made to nudge potential voters into a direction that they may not usually go. Propoganda type moves you might say. And before I step on any toes here let me say that I have voted both sides, depending on what I thought was the best and right thing at the time. My ultimate allegiance is to a higher power but with all that said I still say "Make mine Marvel". Peace out.

Black Panther was great, but didn't deserve to win Best Picture of the year. On the other hand, neither did the movie that actually did win.

I'm thrilled for the awards these two movies picked up, but I think Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse should've been in contention for Best Picture, not just Best Animated Picture.

Absolutely! I said it a few times among my peers. If any comic/super hero movie deserved to be in the run for Best Picture this year, it's Into the Spider-verse!

Hopefully, we get more animated movies like Spider-Man. Well deserved win.
