Seems that taking shots at this movie and Marvel Studios is becoming a past time....I just saw the latest Indiana Jones and it was nowhere the stinkbomb people are saying it was. And I can be pretty demanding. I hope they don't let themselves fall victim to haters.
I saw it yesterday. I enjoyed it overall but it needed to be cleaner. As someone that watches all the Marvel stuff, I knew what was going on but if you don't watch Disney+, then yeah you're gonna be confused. That's probably Marvel's big draw back is they expect you to have seen everything. Lots of stuff that could use some better explanations. I won't spoil it but there's a scene midway through that will drive a lot of fans crazy. It's so cringy. I think they're trying to make this one far too family friendly and it goes overboard. There's also a lot of Skrull and Kree stuff that's happened that is just gossed over. I felt that was the stuff they should have covered in Secret Invasion so the audience was better prepared. I enjoyed it but yes, it certainly wasn't their best work. The flirkin stuff is great, Kamella's family is very entertaining and the ending leads nicely into some of the next stuff. The villain was easily the worst part of the film for me, with a slim patina of a backstory and no real development or weight to her. I understood her motivations, but I didn't *feel* them, if that makes sense. It just felt like, "here's the character you're supposed to hit, get her before she strikes again" mixed with characters who really should have had no problem handling her getting blocked by plot armor until the finale (hey Carol, maybe try shooting the person whose wrist can absorb your power blasts in the leg?). It wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, there were a few laughs here and there, action scenes were mostly ok, but the villain just didn't seem to matter and I was never made to care about the stakes. Yes I think the weakness of the villain was the whole reason they changed it all up. The villain doesn't need to be the focal point of the movie but there needs to be a little better development to get us to care. This one was a one timer at best.

While I have little doubt a movie like Deadpool 3 which will see the return of fan-favorite Hugh Jackman as Wolverine will do well, beyond that its hard to see any path that takes the MCU down the same path DC has been traveling on. That's a shame. Hoping it doesn't diminish the great stuff that went before. Also, I have no desire to give any weight to the empty criticisms that the likes of Scorsese have made. Some here may be so young, they don't remember a time when the very idea of superheroes was automatically considered silly and just a dumping ground for children. Hence if such a movie/tv show was made, it would have weak talent and even weaker budget and production value. The view then became a self-fulfilling prophecy; no "serious" actor or director would touch such projects. Batman '89, Blade and Marvel Studios turned all that around big time, and I'd hate to see it all go back to the dark days.

I have a feeling the so called leak wasn't as much a leak as an intentional slip just to help fill seats. It's cool and it makes sense that this is the only direction The MCU should be heading but personally thisk a reboot is the smarter option. regardless.....OMG Flerken Kittens AndyL - 2023-11-14 @ 11:41 pm

See the thing is, it wasn't really Fiege's fault. It was the previous head of Disney who was pushing every sub-company to churn out tv and movie like a conveyor belt. it got to the point where people were exhausted and burnt out, both the public and employee. Like many have said it was a case of quantity over quality and while I don't like Bob Iger as a person, he is trying to shift it back to being quality over quantity. and before anyone says why haven't the quality returned, remember many of these are in production long before Iger came back so they had very little choice but to continue going the way they were.
