Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Firestar, War Machine And Ultron (?!) Assemble As The New West Coast Avengers

Jay Cochran - August 12, 2024
Announced at San Diego Comic-Con, the WEST COAST AVENGERS are back this November in a new ongoing series by Marvel superstar Gerry Duggan and acclaimed artist Danny Kim! Today, fans can check out this bold new lineup in variant covers for the debut issue, including pieces by Jeehyung Lee, Gerardo Sandoval, and series artist Danny Kim.

This iconic iteration of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will hit the ground running just in time for the title’s 40th anniversary. Following Duggan’s run on Invincible Iron Man, the series opens with Tony Stark assembling a new team consisting of War Machine; Jessica Drew, AKA Spider-Woman; Firestar, who Duggan redefined in the pages of X-Men; AND a mysteriously redeemed Ultron!

ULTRON RETURNS…REDEEMED? Iron Man and War Machine have put together a new team of Avengers – one that includes villains seeking a path to redemption. Their case study? Ultron – who, against all odds, seems to be walking the straight and narrow…for now. But does the success of one guarantee the success of all? Spider-Woman and Firestar have their doubts. And can any amount of heroics really absolve Ultron of his past?

“Redemption has been on my mind this year, and we'll see who can be redeemed on the West Coast,” Duggan teased. “It's a fun action story, but it's also an Ultron tale - and one of my biggest Marvel swings yet. I previously had the pleasure of writing a pretty great horror story about Ultron wearing Pym's face, and this is a very different tale with one of my favorite Marvel characters, in one of my favorite legacy titles in the city that has been my home for so long. Wait until you see what Danny Kim is cooking up. Find redemption in November in the city of Angels.”

This new outfit is actually such an improvement over the previous new outfit which was yuck and sucked.

at least they remedied that.

So very true and I will absolutely admit to that. Its giving off Legion of Superhero vibes....maybe Cockrum, maybe Grell era....it does look good!

Ok I DID say that Fire Star was a boring knock-off....but this artwork is anything but! Wow!

Only thing is I notice her symbol looks like a star fish....I can just hear her teammates calling her "Fire Starfish"!

West Coast is the best coast! This November, Earths Mightiest Heroes reopen operations in sunny California in a new run of WEST COAST AVENGERS by writer Gerry Duggan and artist Danny Kim! Launching just in time for the iconic titles 40th anniversary, WEST COAST AVENGERS will feature a stacked lineup of A-List heroes including Iron Man, War Machine, Spider-Woman, Firestar, and a mysteriously redeemed Ultron! Today, fans can check out an all-new cover for the debut issue by best-selling cover artist, Stanley Artgerm Lau. Also available as a virgin variant cover, Artgerms latest piece spotlights Firestar who makes her grand return to the Avengers following her buzzworthy stint on the X-Men.ULTRON RETURNSREDEEMED? I wish they'd stop with the whole "Ultron, can he be good? Can he be trusted?" thing. If you want to make a good Ultron, make him good and be done with it. Quit jerking our chain and just commit to it, because we all know there's a 99% chance the run will wind up being he'll be good for a handful of arcs and then, oh no, he was evil the whole time and had a nefarious master plan all along! It's more than a little tiresome, to me at least.

They did, Ultron 12 and was brought back in

Ultron has reformed! Shame Al Ewing already did that by bringing back Mark

GarimusPrime - 2024-08-13 @ 7:32 am

If they're going to do this, why can't they include the likes of Julia Carpenter, U.S.Agent, Wonder Man, Century, Mockingbird, etc.? If you're gonna have the West Coast Avengers...then use the actual West Coast Avengers. They leave all of these great characters on the sidelines. It's ridiculous.

Atlantis - 2024-08-13 @ 5:29 am

Wow....now this is a very lop-sided team line up. Two Iron Men is bad enough but now Ultron too? And Firestar is just a boring knock-off of every other flame-powered character there is. Now add Spider-Woman to the mix, what the heck is she supposed to do here?
