New What If? Animated Series Coming To Disney+?!?

Jay Cochran - March 12, 2019
According to /Film Marvel Studios will be doing a new animated series for their Disney+ streaming service that will be based on the classic Marvel Comics title known as "What If".

The series will be overseen by Kevin Feige. In the comics What If? would take established stories from the Marvel Universe and give another take on them, essentially showing what would transpire if this happened instead of that. According to the report this new animated series will be doing the same thing only it will be based on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, with movie actors from the MCU lending their voice talents for the series. As for the stories themselves it seems they will be based more on comics than actual stories from movies and TV. According to the report one episode will be adapting What If? Vol.1 #47, which explored the idea of “What if Loki had found the hammer of Thor?” None of these will effect actual cannon in the MCU since they are only What If scenarios which will give the writers a lot of latitude for what they can come up with. Being animated as opposed to live-action will also allow them to do a lot more in the way of elaborate storylines.

Once they got the have to dos out of the way they could do some amazing stories. Spider-Hulk would be some cool low hanging fruit I would love to see. Depending on the rating an Old Man Logan story could be retconned for the series.

Was interested until they mentioned it'll be based on the MCU & not comic based looks. Big FU to us comic based fans. Everything's geared toward the movie based crowd.

Man I'd be happy with a "what if" series fully focused on the MCU!......and with accompanying toys :D....e.g. What if Bucky became the first Cap, What if Loki was given the hammer instead of Thor, what if T'Challa's father didn't die.......and those are just off the top of my head; plus think of all the incredible figure 2-packs in our future thanks to this series alone! 'make mine Marvel...apparently, for life.

I always liked the what ifs since things could get crazy like character deaths doubt the cartoon would go for anything like that.

There was a recent couple of what ifs that were terrible and pointless.

Oh wow! This will be great! I love the what ifs. Since they will be taking the MCU stories and giving them a twist. I already have some ideas. Like do What if Ned Leeds became Spider-Man or do a pain on that one what if Cap story and say What if Cap was revived in the 60s in the MCU Of course. Because if MCU Cap was revived in the 1960s and not the 2010sThe MCU would be totally different!!! Ahhhhh so many great opportunities with this! Thank you so much Marvel for giving the fans what they want and more!!!!

this would be a fun way to expose our characters to new challanges

I want to see the first What if story when Spider-Man joined the Fantastic four and they became the F5. And being an idiot I traded in some of my What if collection for some action figures I wanted. What if I hadn't done that?

There are so many good What if comics out there. It really is an interesting topic to discuss in person but to see it come to life is something else! I cant wait! As long as they stay serious and really answer questions that we all have I am all in!

This is interesting and a good way to do some alternate universes without having to be tied down by continuity. Just imagine all the figures we could get from it.

Well said!

I'm looking at you, Stormphoenix!
