I personally thought some person had kindly sent me biscuits through the mail, and was pleasantly surprised and pleased when I discovered the contents of this minimalist designed boxset.
And what marvelleous contents they are!
We get Master Chief from Halo in Mark V armor and Master Chief from Halo 2 in Mark VI armor, the anchor of the immensely popular X-Box game Halo, three exclusive Halo 2 postcards as well as an assault rifle, pistol, submachine gun and battle rifle*.
Obligatory contents list done away with, let's get to the meat of this review. I've previously cast cursory glances on Halo's Master Chief in its package before and appreciated its buff sculpt and articulation. Actually fiddling with it reinforced my observations.
It was indeed a joy finally getting the chance to play with this figure and achieving dynamic poses with it.
Thank you Joyride for articulation that makes sense. Note that there's no issues with the figure's balancing ability, as it achieves kneeling poses easily. If only the same articulation was bestowed on Battlestar Galactica's Cylon figure.
At first glance, the Mark VI armor makes Master Chief look gangly and uncomfortable in his own skin/shell. There's predominately more detail on this figure as than Mark V, but whether the design's an improvement is a matter of personal opinion.
However, all is redeemed when you experiment with various possible poses. The addition of a ball joint at the abdomen is an improvement over Mark V, suitably fitting with the boxset's evolution theme. Get Mark VI to arch his torso up, down and even execute a convincing leopard crawl.
Halo fans, if there's only one Halo-related merchandise you'd ever want to get, look no further. Sticklers for articulation are definitely in for a treat when they get this exclusive set.
