2005 Sideshow Collectibles
The X-Files
12” Autopsy Scully (Sideshow Exclusive)
MSRP: $40.00
Nearly four years after the ground breaking sci-fi thriller went off the air, the truth is still out there… And it lies with Sideshow Collectibles. Sideshow continues to keep us believing with it’s ongoing collector’s line of 12” highly articulated & detailed figures based on the X-Files television show. Their latest offering is the new Autopsy Agent Scully. A Sideshow Exclusive, this figure features a detailed likeness, and special autopsy accessories only available in this set. Now, you too can recreate all that fun cadaver slicing action, just like on the show!
Design/Construction
Unlike regular action figures and the like, 12” figures rely solely on the head sculpt and clothing articles to represent the character portrayed. Sideshow’s range of collector’s figures has always done an admirable job recreating the look and the feel of the character with high quality materials and great accessories. Autopsy Scully is no exception. Scully features and all new head sculpt, specific to this figure. She sports a pony tail hairstyle this time around, so it can’t get in the way when the work gets messy. The likeness of the face to Gillian Anderson is pretty strong. While it may not be perfect from every angle, it is easily recognizable to the actor. Clearly a lot of care went into this sculpt.
The cloth goods are where this figure really shines. Agent Scully comes dressed in O.R. scrubs, and lab coat. She also has sneakers (with socks!) and her hands are sculpted to look as though she is wearing surgical gloves. I must give Sideshow Collectibles a lot of credit. It is not easy to make medical scrubs look correct or interesting for that matter due to the fact that scrubs wrinkle and hang a certain way. The talented folks at Sideshow have achieved this with flying colors. Scully’s scrubs and lab coat hang just the right way off her frame with a little adjustment. They fold and crease as starched scrubs would and look very convincing. The seams are very fine and do not detract from the scale. The sewing on the pockets are especially fine and deserve mention.
Underneath Agent Scully’s scrubs is a very well constructed body. I assume this is a stock female body and it features an impressive range of movement due to it’s incredible level of articulation. Every thing moves and poses well. The only flaw I could find is a loose wrist on the right hand. Other than that, it is superb.

Color/Paint
While there isn’t a lot of paint to speak of on this figure, what paint is there is done quite nicely. The flesh tone looks good on her face, with a subtle rouge in her cheeks. Her eyeliner looks just right, and her lipstick has just enough gloss to give it a slight sheen. Her eyes are quite nice, and also feature a gloss finish that catches a glint in the light. The hair has varied tones of red that gives it a look of depth. Overall the paint application on the head sculpt is very good. That’s all fine and good, but it’s the paint on the accessories that really stand out. Specifically, on the heart and brain accessories. Both have multi-tonal paint applications, and are covered with a gloss overcoat. This gives them a creepy wet glissening look under light.
The colors in the scrubs and coat look spot on. The light blue cotton material looks just like the real McCoy as does the lab coat. Really not much to say about them other than they look just right.

Articulation
Where many mass produced 12” inch figures tend to lack in the articulation department, the Sideshow range really goes above and beyond. Agent Scully clocks in at over 30 points of articulation. There really isn’t a pose she can’t get in. Not there are all that many poses she ought to be getting in when performing autopsies, just the fact that she can is great. There is really a lot of freedom here in terms of posing. She features ball joints at both the upper chest and waist. This allows for really capturing a realistic posture. This is something that is usually lacking in this range. Also, this figure is well balanced. While a stand is included in the set, the figure can easily be stood on her own without aid. I always like it when a figure can stand under it’s own power.

Accessories
Autopsy Scully comes with a good assortment of autopsy accessories. These include a scalpel, a handheld tape recorder, safety glasses, and as an added treat, a heart and a brain. All of these are incredibly well sculpted. The detail is superb. Even the small grip ridges are present on the scalpel. It should be noted that the Sideshow website states that included among her accessories is a wallet style FBI badge, but upon close inspection there was none in my set, nor a place in the packaging for it to be placed. It’s too bad, because the badge would have been a nice addition to this figure. But I guess those of you who have the regular agent Scully already have one. And I guess technically, she wouldn’t need it while performing autopsies, but it still would have been a nice addition. Overall, the accessories included with Autopsy Scully are very well sculpted and painted, and are very much in keeping with the character. I love the addition of the heart and brain. They just slay me.

Value
I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty impressed. I’ve never been an avid 12” collector, but this figure may turn me around… If I can find the shelf space. Sideshow Collectibles has done an amazing job on what could easily have been a rather bland figure. Fans of the show will be clamoring for it, and all those medical show fanatics can find a lot to love here. Everyone else may not be as impressed with it since, at the end of the day, it is just a woman in medical scrubs, but that’s really not the point. This is a figure for the fans, and it works on just about every level. Sideshow Collectibles continues to show their devotion to the fans by delivering a great product for a reasonable price that fans can be excited about. The quality in the construction and materials is very good, and the accessories are perfect for this set. Anyone who is a fan of the X-Files, and has lots of shelf space to spare, needs to go out and pick up this great figure.
The truth is out there… And the truth is that you can’t get much better.
