Package Description
Only son of the Hulk and the Sakaarian Show Warrior, Caiera the Oldstrong, the SON OF Hulk was abandoned and left for dead by his father after his mother was killed while he was still in the womb. Even as a mass of undifferentiated cells invisible to the naked eye, the nearly unlimited power of his parents manifested, keeping him alive, sustaining him, letting him grow into the boy that thrived among the shattered remains of the world of Sakaar. Influenced by the mingling of his father's gamma power with the ancient Old Power of his mother, he grew rapidly into the young man that emerged from the wilds to battle the clashing tribes of survivors, and learn about the legacy left by his legendary parents.

Appearance
Skaar has a new sculpt that for the most part duplicates the art well. The proportions of the figure are odd. Skaar has huge, long thighs and a short torso while in the art he seems to be more human proportioned (albeit extremely muscular). The coloring though is obviously meant to mimic the art. The alternating dark and light tones are very similar to the comic art, and are a nice attention to detail on Hasbro’s part. The tattoos are also very sharp and clean. However there’s not a lot of details on this figure; the large smooth surfaces contribute to somewhat of a hard plastic look. The tunic in particular looks bland because of the ugly light brown it was molded in.

The head sculpt is very good, having a lot of lines and other features to help it stand out. The black hair also adds some much needed color. However, the long hair helps emphasize just how short the torso is, while the bare thighs emphasize how long they are. I don’t think there’s a whole lot Hasbro could have done for the skin tone, but I think proper portions would have gone a long way. The arms also sit far out to the side. Overall, the appearance of this figure doesn’t deserve much better than an adequate. While the coloring on the skin is excellent, the proportions and blandness of the tunic are not acceptable.

Articulation
Skaar has ball jointed shoulders, elbows, hands, waist, knees, ankles, torso, and head. Basically everything’s a ball joint. The knees and elbows bend about 90 degrees. The range of motion in the torso is adequate, while the range of motion in the head is terrible because of the hair. As mentioned earlier, the arms sit out far to the side of his body.

Poseability
The range of motion is terrible for fighting poses. The ball jointed ankles make it hard to balance, and the bad range of motion in the shoulders and elbows makes it hard for him to pose well with his weapon. His body just doesn’t look like it’s moving fluidly, and so his dynamic poses just don’t look as good as they should. Stylistically he’ll fit ok next to Toybiz Hulk, but he looks best next to King Hulk. Skaar does not seem to fit well into a collection without someone like King Hulk to stand next to.

Final Judgment: 5
I was expecting more from this figure when I bought it. Unless you’re a big Hulk fan, you won’t be missing anything if you skip Skaar. While it’s obvious Hasbro worked hard on getting the coloring right, the proportions and limited range of motion just ruin the figure. For a figure that doesn’t stylistically go well with a whole lot of other figures, the poseability should have been much better. Skaar just gets a pass with a score of adequate.
