Review: Hasbro's 3.75" Iron Man 2 "Hall Of Armor Collection"

Jay Cochran - April 07, 2010
If you hadn’t heard, Hasbro is releasing a limited series of 3.75” Iron Man 2 figures called the “Hall of Armor Collection” which will be exclusive to Target retail stores. The first wave will include three figures, Iron Man (Mark IV), War Machine, and Iron Man (Mark VI), and each one will retail for $12.99.

What makes this series so unique is that each figure will come with a special display stand that lights up to replicate Tony Stark’s armor vault where he keeps and displays all his different Iron Man suits. The light color is blue and the base is made to look like Tony's miniature arc reactor he uses to power his Iron Man suits he wears in the movies.

The display bases are powered by three AAA batteries and have a power switch with an option to turn the power off completely, a try me option which displays the light for only a few seconds after you push the power button, and an option to turn the power on until it is turned off.

The bases seem to be well constructed though I have not tested the battery life if you leave the on the base light. The bases rotate with a removable piece of transparent plastic that acts as a backdrop for the figure. The bases are compatible with any 3.75” figure so you could use the bases with other Iron Man 2 or Marvel Universe figures.

An area in the front of the base looks like it would make for a good name plate for the armor. Although no name or sticker decal is provided to do this, you could probably make one pretty easily if you really wanted to.

As for the figures themselves, they are basically the same versions sold in Hasbro’s regular 3.75” Iron Man 2 line. However, no additional accessories or armor cards like the ones that come with the regular figures are provided in this line. War Machine does come with one shoulder cannon and has the arm on his back to hold a second one (the second one is not included).

I like this line, but if you already bought these figures from the regular line then I could see how it might not be justifiable to purchase them for a second time. It would be cool if Hasbro just sold these bases without the figures for a cheaper price, but unfortunately there is no indication that would ever happen. If you have been holding off on the regular figures, now might be a great time to pick them up.

As I mentioned before, these figures are being sold as a Target retailer exclusive. I am told the official on-shelf date for them will be 4/18, however many Targets seem to be getting them in now. The Target DCPI # for these is 087-06-1229.

Though the first series only includes three figures, Hasbro announced at February’s Toy Fair that they would be doing additional figures for this line at a later date.

UPDATE: I just wanted to make an update. Though not really made to stack, the bases do seem to sit on top of one another good enough that if you had multiple bases you could stack two on top of one another. If you interlocked them and stacked them you might even be able to stack 3 on top of one another, but I doubt you could get away with more than that without them falling over. Unfortunately I don't have enough bases to test this out, but I did add an image of two stacked on top of each other to give you an idea of what they look like.
