Packaging - The box packaging is very similar to previous team pack sets Hasbro has done for the Marvel Universe line. The front contains a large window so you can see all the figures in the set before you open it. The right side features some nice comic book art of the four characters, and the bottom lists the name of each figure.
The left side of the packaging also features the same art as the front, and the Uncanny X-Man logo is on the right side.
The back has a brief description of the set as well as images of the figures included. The bottom left side previews another team set coming out, in this case the Inhumans. On the bottom right side is an image of Alpha Flight’s Sasquatch with a word balloon that says “Collect Them All! Each sold Separately. Come on! You can trust a big furball like me!
Sculpt -
Rogue - Hasbro has done a fairly decent job with the sculpt on this one. Certainly better than the old Marvel Legends version which was one of the more horrid figures released in that line. The hair is sculpted on with hard plastic, and the sleeves of the leather jacket also are sculpted onto the figure. The face actually looks pretty good although they sculpted it with the mouth open so she looks kinda looks bucktoothed or something. I don’t know if this is more of a paint issue than sculpt, but the face would have been perfect if they had made the mouth closed. The figure also has the long knee boots sculpted on with some soft rubber pieces attached at the top to give her the flaps near her thighs.
Longshot - He has a pretty decent sculpt as well. The head sculpt looks really good with the 80’s style long hair look going. The only thing I don’t really like about this figure is the way they sculpted the left hand. It’s sculpted in a strange open manner like he’s trying to grab something. It just looks off. I would have preferred they either made it closed-fisted like the right hand or had him holding some of the patten blades he uses as weapons.
Wolverine - Although he looks good, the expression on his face is off a bit. They obviously were trying to make him look angry, but the right side of his mouth is a bit off center. It’s like they overcompensated when they did the right cheek. Wolverine’s claws are solid; they are attached to one another so they don’t get bent out of shape but in such away that they still look like separate blades. The belt on the figure is missing the X on it like the Jim Lee version had, which isn’t major but it would have made the figure more consistent with Rogue.
X-Babies Cyclops - This figure should probably be considered more of an accessory than an actual figure. I’ve never been a big fan of the whole X-Babies thing, but it looks good for what it’s supposed to be.
Paint -
Rogue - uses bright yellow’s and greens like in the comics. It looks pretty good but there is some discoloration of the yellow around her butt and knees. I also don’t like the white used for the teeth on her mouth. As I mentioned before it makes her look like she has buckteeth or something.
Longshot - The paint here is solid with no bleeding. It’s pretty basic black with no kind of wash or anything. Most of the figure is black with a yellow star on his chest and blue on his belt. There is also some white used around the wrist to depict an under shirt. The hair uses some wash and he has blue eyes which stand out nicely.
Wolverine - There is some chipping on the back of his mask, and they painted the joint that attaches his arms to his torso brown so it looks kinda funny. This area should have been skin tone. I like how they painted hair on his arms since Wolverine is known to be a pretty hairy guy. I would have liked to have seen a red X painted on his belt so to match the Jim Lee version to go along with Rogue but that’s just a personal preference.
X-Babies Cyclops - For an item that is more an accessory than a figure, the paint job here is pretty solid. The only problem is around the figure’s waist; you can see where some of the blue from his shirt bled over onto the yellow shorts.
Articulation - Rogue, Wolverine and Longshot all have pretty much the same type of articulation. Rogue and Longshot have a hinged ball-joint that attaches the head but the hair restricts some of the head’s movement for both of them. Rogue can look down but not up and has some restriction when she turns left and right. Longshot’s head movements are even more restricted. The head is attach to a ball-joint with a swivel joint at the bottom of the neck and a collar piece attached under that. His head can turn fine but has little up or down movement.
Wolverine has a ball joint on the neck but no hinge.
All three figures have swivel-hinge shoulders and wrists, hinge elbows, swivel biceps, swivel calves, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and ball-jointed hips and torso. Rogue, like most of the Marvel Universe female figures, has joints made with very thin plastic so she appears to be petite. Longshot has a swivel waist but Rogue and Wolverine do not. Wolverine and Longshot have hinged ankles and Rogue has ankle rockers.
X-Babies Cyclops has no articulation at all.
Accessories - Longshot has a removable shoulder satchel, and you can remove Rogues jacket although the sleeves are sculpted on so the figure looks odd without the jacket on. Wolverine has no accessories. As I always say with Marvel Universe figures these days, figure stands would be nice.
Fun - Overall the set is pretty fun if you are an X-Men fan. Rogue was a major missing member of the X-Men so her addition to the Marvel Universe line is nice. I was never much of a Longshot fan but he does actually go nicely with the Marvel Legends Mojo figure. Wolverine is well, Wolverine. There have been a ton of him made for this line, so one more really isn’t needed but is not surprising either.
Overall - The Rogue figure is the main reason most of us will want this pack. Longshot is nice but never been that major of a player in the X-Men Universe, and the Wolverine and X-Babies Cyclops are basically just fillers to round out the pack. It’s always possible Rogue could get re-released down the road on a single card but no guarantee exists. If you want or need Rogue for your X-Men team and wouldn’t mind getting Longshot as well, then you definitely want to seek this set out for your collection.
