Hasbro’s third and final new figure released for wave 20 of their Marvel Universe line is the X-Men Jubilee. Always striking me as a cross between Kitty Pride and Dazzler, I have never been terribly fond of the character and never had much desire to see her made in plastic form. Nevertheless here she is, though not in her more familiar 90’s appearance of jean shorts and pink shirt. She does have the yellow trench coat and pink sunglasses though. Join us as we take a detailed look at this new figure to see if it’s one worth adding to your figure collection.

Packaging - The card back is similar to other Marvel Universe offerings in wave 20. Art work featuring the character is in the top left side of the cardback. The art work for this wave was done by comic book artist Mike Deodato Jr. In the bottom left corner, the little cardboard “Comic Shot” is displayed next to the titled figure.

The back features a picture of the figure with a brief bio and images of the other two figures offered in this wave, Blastaar and Professor Xavier. An image of a 70’s version of Dazzler is shown on the bottom of the card backs in this wave. Each wave appears to feature a different character with little sayings. Dazzler says for this figure “Let’s see you do this on roller skates?”

I do want to point out that whoever took the picture of the figure for the back of the package apparently put the plasma blast accessory on the figure’s hand backwards.

Sculpt - The sculpt on the figure is decent and portrays a pretty good likeness to the Jubilee character. The head sculpt is the best part of the figure with the hairstyle and molded pink sunglasses in her hair like you always see in the comics. She has some blue sculpted circular earrings on her ears. The arms of the coat are sculpted on the figure while the rest of it is made out of a soft rubbery material that is removable. Of course if you take it off the figure still has yellow sleeves. Both the sleeves and the rubbery material are sculpted to give the coat an appearance as if its almost blowing in the wind. The rest of the figure is done in a pretty basic black. She has a yellow belt with the X symbol as the buckle sculpted on, and she wears black gloves with some skin from her arms showing between them and the coat. 


I think my biggest complaint about the sculpt is that she seems too tall. I grant you, I haven’t really seen the Jubilee character in the comics since the 90’s when she was first introduced as a little kid found in the mall, so perhaps she has grown some since those days. Still, I really don’t think she should be taller than someone like Wolverine who I know is short but not that short.

Paint - The paint job is pretty basic here. Details like the pink lipstick add a nice touch to the figure, but otherwise you’re dealing with pretty basic black and yellows. The coat does have a bit of a wash giving it a feel of added texture which may be hard to tell in the pictures but is noticeable to the human eye. There are no noticeable paint errors I could detect on my figure.

Articulation - Jubilee has a good amount of articulation though her thin legs make the joints especially at the knees very soft and likely to bend. I haven’t had any breakage issues but I would recommend caution when posing her. The figure has a ball-hinged neck giving her a good range of motion looking up, down and sideways, even with the coat on. She has ball-hinged elbows, ball-jointed torso, swivel wrists, ball-jointed hips, thigh and calf swivel, double-jointed knees and ankle rockers.

Accessories - The figure comes with one plasma blast accessory which is a piece of translucent purple plastic that has a hole in it that either hand can fit in, though not well. The accessory doesn’t stay attached very well if you move the figure around at all.

Fun - Jubilee is one of those characters that seems to pop up here or there from time to time but never really plays a significant role. Granted I never read the comics where she became a vampire or something, but nevertheless I couldn’t find a whole lot of cool poses or character pairings for her. As I mentioned before, she seems a little tall for me so she doesn’t even really look that good standing next to Wolverine which is the main person you associate this character with. I’m sure if you are a Jubilee fan, you could probably have more fun with this one but to me it just came off kind of boring.

Overall - If you like Jubilee’s more modern look then I guess you could say the appearance is pretty good, but the figure is too tall in my opinion and the thin joints strike me as having potential to break if you move and pose the figure a lot. The accessory also doesn’t add much to the figure and tends to fall off easily. If you are a fan of the Jubilee character or just want more female characters for your X-Men team, then you will probably want to pick this one up. Otherwise, this one might be a pass for you.
