Marvel Legends Limited Edition Hulk (Target Exclusive)

Marvel Legends Limited Edition Hulk (Target Exclusive)

Tom - May 29, 2008

Package Description
Pursued for years and driven to the ends of the Earth, Dr. Bruce Banner carries the burden of his secret dark side. A lab accident exposed him to gamma radiation that unlocked something dark within, a primal force of rage so powerful that, in times of great stress, it alters his mind and body into the monstrous creature known as The Hulk! Responsible for untold destruction, The Hulk is a curse Banner chooses to bear alone. While seeking ways to control his emotions, he is tirelessly searching for a cure. But the stress and anger of everyday life are a constant threat. No matter what Banner does, The Hulk is always with him. Where The Hulk goes, destruction follows.

Appearance
This Hulk figure uses the body of ML series 1 Hulk with a new head sculpt to look more like the movie Hulk. I’m not a fan of this body sculpt. He looks like a hunchback, and his arms are too long. The head in particular looks like it’s sitting right on his body with very little neck visible. I also would have preferred a more elongated head, as opposed to the general square shape how the face looks now. The face sculpt does look a good bit like the movie face on the package, the only problem is the before mentioned shape of the head. This Hulk also has a little bit of a height problem compared to other Hulk figures. Looking at him next to other figures, Hulk simply needs to be taller.

I do like the green color Hasbro chose, and for once there is a paint wash! The colors work nicely on this figure, although a color that wasn’t as dull on the pants could have gone a long way. In general the details on the figure are great, from the veins all over his body to his toe and finger nails. The joints are pretty obvious and ugly on this figure, especially on the torso. The ab joint in particular does barely anything at all but is very ugly. Overall he looks a little too top heavy compared to what I expect from Hulk. He would look adequate as a default Hulk, but he’s definitely not the best one out there.

Articulation
Hulk has the same articulation as his series 1 counterpart. There is a ball jointed head and ball jointed shoulders. The elbows are a single pin joint with no bicep cut. The knees are also a single pin joint but have thigh cuts. The wrists are swivel joints and the ankles are pin joints. Hulk has a “T” crotch and a single pin in each hand. The knees, hips, and elbow joints all bend about 90 degrees. There is nothing inhibiting the range of motion of the shoulders. The ab joint can bend a couple degrees. The pins in the hands are pretty useless.

Poseability
Hulk can do a few good poses, but as always a fist would have been nice. Hulk can do the swaggering or reaching kind of dynamic poses, and has decent balance too. I’ve never really though of Hulk figures as real dynamic figures so this Hulk holds up fairly well. Stylistically he looks ok with Marvel Legends figures, but when I look at him on the shelf I keep noticing how he has no neck. He looks ok as a Savage Hulk. While I like the darker colors on this figure, they also have the drawback of making him less visible on the shelf though. This Hulk does not stand out well in a crowd.

Final Judgment: 5
There are simply better Hulk figures out there. This figure will be adequate for anyone without a Hulk figure. For anyone with a Face-Off Hulk, this figure is not worth getting unless you’re a big Hulk fan. This figure fails to generate any excitement in me, and so gets a score of “adequate”.

i dont know. i stopped with movie figs. it looks bizarre looking. knowing hasbro, they will never release an abomination counterpart to him. maybe then it would be worth something.
