Package Description
With his home country of Japan destroyed by the Horsemen of APOCALYPSE, SUNFIRE was captured and subjected to brutal experiments. At the hands of the Horseman, Death, his mutant powers were pushed to their absolute limit. By the time Death was finished with him, he was constantly on fire, his body eternally consuming itself in superheated flame. Rescued and recruited by the X-MEN, he was fitted with a protective suit that shields him from devastating effects of his own power. Driven by vengeance, he burns with the hope of one day avenging himself on those who destroyed his beloved homeland.
Appearance
Sunfire has a sculpt based on the generic ML body sculpt with modifications. While in the comics Sunfire wasn’t really translucent, the look is still impressive. The translucent color helps hide all the joints. The inside parts of the figure also help give the body different textures and color tones that make the flames look better. The black and orange areas are painted very well and are very clean. The white on the mask is a little sloppy though.
The proportions are generally good, but the left hand is a little big. He looks good with other X-Men figures and with AOA Wolverine and Sabertooth. A classic Sunfire would still be nice but in the mean time he looks good with the X-men. Sunfire looks good on the shelf because he is very unique and stands out from other figures. Overall Sunfire is a winner on appearance just because he is so unique.
Articulation
Sunfire has standard articulation for figures using the ML Bullseye body. He has double jointed knees and elbows, ball jointed shoulders and hips, and a hinge torso. There are also swivel joints in the ankles. He has standard range of motion, and good balance.
Poseability
Sunfire could use more AOA figures to be posed with. He looks good with X-Men figures though. Sunfire does not have a hole for a flight stand, which is unfortunate. He does have some good action poses though. Most importantly Sunfire looks great on display because of the unusual translucent plastic.
Final Judgment: 7
Sunfire is very unique, which is great from a collecting stand point. He could use some more AOA figures to be posed with, but he still looks great on display. In terms of character design Sunfire is a must buy.
