Sculpt - The figure stands about 31 cm tall and uses a basic Hot Toys male body mold with about 30 points of articulation. The costume is actual cloth which looks very true to the uniform seen in the Avengers movie, but obviously isn’t actually sculpted on like with a traditional action figure. The detail on the uniform is quite nice especially with the boots and gloves. Unfortunately where the sculpt falls a little short is with the head. This figure actually comes with two alternate heads, one with the mask on and one with the mask off. The mask on head is the better looking of the two heads but I can’t honestly say its likeness to Chris Evans is that dead on. It’s not that this head looks bad, I just can’t say it look a whole lot like Chris Evans’ face. As for the head without the helmet, not only does it not look a whole lot like Chris Evans, the facial expression they decided to give this one just looks terribly off. I guess this is supposed to be an angry look but it just looks like he is grinding his teeth or something. Hot Toys figures and the likenesses they are based on are generally dead on so I was pretty surprised and disappointed how off these head sculpts were.
Paint - The paint on this figure is good. There are no noticeable blemishes and the skin tones on the head are decent. Again the costume is mostly cloth but the colors are tight and true to how they appeared in the movie. Cap comes with two shields, one that looks clean and the other that appears to have been through battle, both are nice using metallic looking paint giving the undamaged shield a nice shiny finish and the battle damaged one definitely looks like it’s been through a war.
Articulation - As I mentioned before, this figure has about 30 points of articulation using a standard Hot Toys male figure body, which normally gives a figure a wide range of movement. However because of Cap’s cloth uniform I found many of the figures movements to be somewhat restricted, especially in the shoulder and elbow areas. There was one pose I was trying to put the figure in where he is saluting but the arm would not stay in place enough to keep his hand up by his head because of how restrictive the uniform fit is.
Accessories - This figures comes with a fair amount of accessories. He has 9 interchangeable gloved palms including:
Fun - This figure’s restricted movements due to the uniform hurts the fun factor on this figure because you can’t get him in that many cool poses.
Overall - For a Hot Toys figure which isn’t cheap I have to say I was a little disappointed with this one, especially since I am a huge Cap fan. As I mentioned in the beginning, I had been pretty spoiled by Hot Toys Iron Man figures, but this one just doesn’t seem to match up as well with those in quality or appearance. If you have all the other Hot Toys Avengers figures then I imagine you still will want to add this one to your collection, otherwise you might want to wait and see what they do for the upcoming Captain America: Winter Soldier movie.
