Doctor Strange Non-Spoiler Movie Review

Dr. Strange brings the world of the mystic arts and a trippy existentialism to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a roller coaster of effects that would have made Steve Ditko proud.

The story revolves around the character of Doctor Stephen Strange, a world renowned neurosurgeon with an ego to match who is in a deadly car crash that leaves his once precise hands a smashed up mess. When modern medicine fails to heal him properly, Strange turns to the ways of the East to look for salvation only to discover a world he never knew existed.

While I don't think I could put this movie in my top 10 favorite Marvel movies list, I do think they did a good job taking a character I've always felt to be somewhat boring in the comics and make him enjoyable to watch on the big screen. The movie delivers a nice balance of comedic undertones with whacky special effects that might make you think you are on a acid trip. Inception has nothing on this movie. Benedict Cumberbatch gives a solid performance as Strange, and while at times I think the story came off a little rushed with villains that were nothing to write home about, I think they did a good job overall creating an interesting origin story and laying more ground work for the infinity Marvel Cinematic picture.

The ending features two after credits scenes, both of which you will want to stay for and Stan Lee continues his trend of comedic cameo appearances.
