FreeForm Is Not Airing Marvel's 'New Warriors', Series Will Be Shopped

Outsiders - November 06, 2017
Marvel's New Warriors is now looking for a new home after being picked up at Freeform in April. The straight to half-hour scripted comedy., will no longer air on the younger-skewing, Disney-owned cable network.

Marvel will shop the live-action comedy to other outlets as there has been some talk that the 10-episode series from Kevin Biegel could be taken to Disney's forthcoming subscription streaming service.

The pilot is said to have tested through the roof and caught the attention of high-level Disney executives. Insiders note that Freeform — which is expanding original programming to four nights a week in 2018 — could not find a slot for the show next year as it had originally intended. Marvel then asked for New Warriors back as the comic book powerhouse wants it to premiere in the new year. Freeform obliged.

"We are extremely excited about Marvel’s New Warriors and look forward to finding the perfect partner to launch the series with in 2018,” said Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Entertainment.

"Marvel's New Warriors" is a new comedic live-action adaptation of the popular Marvel comic featuring young adult heroes. This marks Marvel's first foray into comedy for a television series. "Marvel's New Warriors" is about six young people with powers living and working together. With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world ... even if the world isn't ready. Not quite super, not yet heroes, "Marvel's New Warriors" is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once - except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.
