Captain America Marvel Premium Format Figure

Just in time for July 4th, Sideshow Collectibles has released its newest addition to the Marvel Premium Format family, Captain America.

I myself have never been the biggest Captain America fan, but I can say the character has grown on me over the years and let’s just face it; this statue looks way too good to pass up. Here is why.


Sculpting- The sculpt is amazing; it’s very realistic from the expression on his face to the scales on his uniform. The stars on his uniform are raised, the A on his head is raised, and the gloves look real because of the 3-D sculpting done to them. The raised features of this figure are what really brings it to life. Everything was done as it should have been. I have not found one flaw in the figure yet.


Painting- The paint is excellent; I mean you can only make it so good. There is some intentional paint wear painted on his uniform to make it look more real, dark shades where needed, etc. There is one flaw though; on his head where his cheek and mask meet, on some parts the blue paint does overlap. This is on all Captain America PF’s but it is nothing to worry about. It’s not noticeable unless you get really close; it is not sloppy and it definitely does not take away anything from the figure. As with all statues, they all have some paint issues, but at least it is nothing major on this one.


Accessories (Regular)- As with all PF’s, Captain America comes with a base. The base comes with Ultron’s head attached to it in a war backdrop. The base does come with a detachable metal beam which is held on by a magnet and can be taken on or off. It does not add much art to the base, but it adds more to the setting. Excellent base to go along with Capt.

Accessories (Exclusive) – The exclusive version of Captain America comes with more accessories than the regular addition. The base comes with Ultron’s head, which is detachable and can be replaced with a Nazi helmet. Captain America himself comes with an extra head (WWII design) and an extra arm/shield (WWII design). So you can display Captain in the modern age or back in his WW2 days.

Note: The regular Captain America PF has all limbs and joints permanently attached, while the exclusive has the head, arm and base pieces that are detachable. It is not known if the exclusive can experience more wear and tear over time than the regular yet, but some may view the regular edition as a positive because it comes in one complete piece.


Quality Control- People have experienced some major and minor issues with their Captain Americas. Mine has a few small issues, but nothing big. Some have received the Captain with cracks and breaks, some with bad paint and some with scratches. It seems that almost every Captain will come with some small flaw. No matter what Sideshow does, their PF’s will always ship with problems. There is only so much they can do; they cannot control the workers at the factories, and I am sure the workers could care less about the quality of the figures. One person received their Exclusive Captain America completely destroyed; the workers packed all the exclusive pieces in the same layer as the statue itself (Exclusive pieces has its own separate shipping layer), thus damaging everything. Do keep in mind that Captain America has been one of their more challenging PF’s to create, so future PF’s will only become better and better. BUT PLEASE do not let this scare you from getting one. I am only telling you why this happens, and that it’s not Sideshow's fault.


Cost- The regular Captain America cost $250 from Sideshow, while the exclusive was $280 from Sideshow. You can still get him on eBay and at numerous online stores, but he will most likely run you anywhere from $260-$500 depending on which version you get. But act fast because the price on Captain will go up for sure in the coming months.


Final Comments- Captain America has been said to be the symbol of America. His shield is so iconic, he himself is an icon. To stand in the same room as this statue makes me feel proud, because when I look at this statue I see an awesome 3-D resemblance of one of the greatest comic book heroes ever. And yet at the same time, I see Captain America standing strong in front of our country's flag showing the pride of this nation with his head high and his chest strong. Whether you are a Captain America fan or a fan of America, make no mistake and get your Captain America Premium Format Figure today.
