Spider-Man Trilogy New Goblin

Spider-Man Trilogy New Goblin

Tom - October 21, 2007

Package Description
It's more than the green gas that gives Harry Osborn his strength. He is driven by a rage beyond anything that ever infested his father, and focused in a way the Green Goblin - in his madness – never was. He has one goal and one wish – the death of Spider-Man and the destruction of all he loves. Screaming through the sky on a highly advanced sky-stick, his strength and speed are enhanced by enough weapons to equip a small army. Against an enemy this vicious who has such intimate knowledge of his secret identity and habits, Spider-Man has no hope of a quick victory, and only the faintest chance of survival.

Appearance
New Goblin is movie accurate, and approximately the right height. This figure has a very plastic look in the body because of the large fields of black. The addition of buckles, straps, and wrinkles are essential to the look of this figure so that it does not look too plain. The colors are very sharp though, as they should be with so few needed. The glider doesn’t look very good though because of the plain grey and lack of details. There are a few lines and grips on the glider, but it does not have the hi-tech look from the movie. The figure as a whole is missing the appropriate hi-tech look because it rested on the glider and the glowing pumpkin bombs. Thus the overall impression of the figure is not as impressive as it should be.

None of the joints are overly obvious, but the torso shape does look a little awkward. The hands can prevent him from looking good in certain fighting poses, but for the most part are not a problem. The head sculpt is the best part of the figure, with the waves of the hair and the shape of the goggles sculpted in. Overall, the figure looks clean and well made, if not as realistic and detailed as Venom or Spider-Man. Compared to comic figures, he does not fit in with other figures stylistically. However, he will fit in a movie display fine, and he could possibly be snuck in other displays next to Spider-Man.

Articulation
New Goblin has normal Toybiz joints except for ball joints for the wrists and ankles. There is almost no motion from the torso joint except for twisting. He also doesn’t get a full range of motion from the ankles. The sculpt prevents the foot from twisting, and it doesn’t move up and down very far. Other than those two problem areas, New Goblin has a full range of motion comparable to a Toybiz figure.

Poseablility
New Goblin’s biggest problem is his ankles, which cannot move far for dynamic poses. They are a real problem with the glider where his knees need to be bent, and the fact the torso can’t bend far compounds the problem. Through twisting he can be put in a few good poses on the slider. Overall, New Goblin is harder to pose than he should be. He can’t ride his glider low, so he may be posed best standing while fighting Spider-Man.

Final Judgment: 6
New Goblin is one of the better looking figures out of this series, but the competition isn’t very great. As a movie figure, he’s on par with most figures except for great figures like the super articulated movie Spider-Man. He didn’t quite live up to my expectations though, due in large part to his inability to crouch (because of the ankles). He can look a little plain at times, but for the most part looks realistic and like a tough fighter. There’s nothing terribly wrong with him, he just can’t do everything I would like. For that, he’s a good figure, but nothing exceptional in my collection.
