Marvel Legends Ultimate Captain America Figure

Marvel Legends Ultimate Captain America Figure

Jay Cochran - March 07, 2013

With another Marvel Legends wave comes another Captain America, this time with Ultimate Captain America. Does this latest version of the star spangled Avenger do the character justice or is it one Cap too many? Read on to find out.

Check out hi-res images for this figure in our GALLERY below.

Packaging - This figure incorporates the same standard packaging Hasbro has been using for all their Marvel Legends figures since last year. The The top on the front and on the back features comic art of the character. The art is done by comic book artist Clayton Crain. The figure is clearly displayed on the front of the card so you can get a good look at it before purchasing. The front also features some art for other figures being released in the wave, but you can’t really see that until you open the figure and remove it from the packaging.

Sculpt - The figure has a good amount of detailing on the sculpt with things like shoelaces on the boots and pouches on the gloves. There is a rubber gun holster with gun in it attached on his right leg, neither of which are removable. There is a removable vest and utility belt which has nice detailing such as a knife, grenades and other military type equipment. He also has star shaped cleats on the bottom of his boots which is a nice touch. The head sculpt seems to be very similar to the maskless one used on the series 1 Commander Rogers figure, only this version has a mask on.

Paint - Ultimate Cap shares some similarities in color scheme with the regular Captain America, such as the red and white stripes on the torso section, blue shirt and mask with a white “A” on his head, and star on his chest. He has the traditional red boots and gloves, and they actually added a nice little detail by giving him black soles on the bottom of his boots. Where Ultimate Cap differs is that his pant legs are grey and he has black on the backside of his biceps. The vest and utility belt are brown, and his shield uses a metallic red, white and blue on the front and silver on the back. The paint scheme looks solid and I didn’t notice any errors with my figure. It would have been nice if they had added some additional colors on the utility belt. Everything on it including the knife and grenades are the same color as the actual belt.

Articulation - Ultimate Cap has very good articulation. He has a ball-hinged neck giving him good up, down, left and right movement plus swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-jointed elbows, swivel wrists, ab crunch, and swivel waist. The legs are attached at the waist with ball-hinged joints, double-jointed knees, swivel calves and ankle rockers.

Accessories - He has the removable vest, belt and shield. The shield can clip onto the figure’s wrists, or a peg can be used to attach it on the figure’s back. Because of the large size of the figure’s wrists, the clamp on the shield fits better around the figure’s left hand than the right.

Overall - This figure has good articulation, paint and sculpt. It would have been nice if the holster and gun on his right leg was useable but other than that I can find no real faults with the figure. I am personally not a huge fan of the Ultimate characters and I don’t really like the look of Cap’s head without the wings on it, but the figure remains true to its source material and will make a nice addition to your Marvel Legends collection, assuming you like the Ultimate characters.
