Marvel Studios Passes On Hall H At SDCC 2011

Jay Cochran - June 22, 2011
Following up to our report about how many studios are still deciding if they are going to be attending the San Diego Comic Convention this year because presentations have lead to poor ticket sales. One of the studios that was questionable was Marvel Entertainment and according to Hero Complex, Marvel Entertainment will not be reassemble in Hall H at Comic-Con International in July.

The official word is Marvel Studios will sit out the Hollywood previews in the 6,000-seat hall. The studio leaders decided that, as far as Hall H goes, it wasn’t prepared to compete with its own past and wild fan expectations.

From the Hall H program, many big names movies are absent such as Warner Bros. with “Man of Steel,” the 2012 feature-film revival of Superman. “The Dark Knight Rises,” Warner’s follow-up is also M.I.A. The sci-fi epic “John Carter” is also a notable absentee in Hall H, but Disney is holding it back for a very specific reason — it will be a centerpiece (along with “The Lone Ranger“). These movies have not been confirmed if they will have any type of presentation at the D23 Expo in Anaheim from August 19-21.

Even with Marvel Entertainment Studios not taking over Hall H is not synonymous with sitting out Comic-Con. The studio will have a major presence on the convention showroom floor and there’s talk of a promotional event beyond the walls of the San Diego Convention Center, which might suggest a “Captain America: The First Avenger” promotion, premiere or special screenings.
