Marvelous News reader Ultron15a writes in to let us know about a new
Trademark filing by Hasbro for the ROM The Space Knight character.
For those not familiar with ROM. He was a character created for a short-lived toy line back in the late 70's by the Parker Brothers company. The toy line had a spin-off comic book series from Marvel which actually ended up being more popular than the toys.
Parker Brothers was eventually merged into the Kenner Toy company and later purchased by Hasbro in 1991.
We have heard some rumblings in the past about ROM possibly showing up as a figure in one of the current Marvel figure lines since ROM has the Marvel connection with the comics, but for a number of reasons that never seemed to materialize.
This latest filling will obviously fuel the fires of speculation about whether ROM could finally see the light of day as a figure or perhaps even a full fledged toy line from Hasbro with no connection to Marvel what-so-ever. Of course its also very possible that Hasbro is simply just taking steps to secure property copyrights for things it already owns with no real plans of doing anything with it in the foreseeable future.
Shown below is a 6" custom ROM figure done by
argenta-2008.
