The thing about this movie and its success or failure, irrespective of its proximity to the source material, is that the vast majority of MCU fans aren't comic book fans, or are only casually so. This board is full of diehards, but that's not representative of the generalmovie-going public, who are only looking for big action, cool stories, great effects, and the next piece of the ever-expanding tapestry that is the MCU. They've never heard of the Eternals, just like they had never heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy, just like they were probablyonly passingly familiarwith the Avengers, bothas a team and as a collection of characters, prior to their exposure through the MCU. The MCU started with some of the bigger names in comics and went to great lengths to make them look somewhat accurate to the comics, because they need to get comic fans on board to kickstart their movie universe, but the train has left the station. Those early movies did fine, but recent movies have consistently broken records, and now they have mainstream movie-goers hooked. Who the Eternals are and what they look like in the comics just doesn't matter for this movie's bottom-line. And--ultimately--if the movie's good, the toys will probably sell fine.
EDIT: I wrote the above before reading @monron999's recentpost, so I thought I'd clarify thatthis isn't meant as a response to that, just a response to the general sentiment in the thread. The spoiled toy does nothing for me, the revealed costumes do nothing for me, and I don't care at all about the Eternals. I'll go see this because I've found the MCU generally entertaining, but I have no expectations or attachments. I don't feel differently about this than I have with any other MCU film so far.

It's not even that. I could care less if the characters resembled the comics. TBH the look in the comics didn't set that high a bar to begin with. It just looks all out boring and uninspired, from the robed monk look of pretty much all the characters to the mass of unidentifiable tentacles and muscle and sinew that's supposed to insinuate some massively imposing......whatever. It's just overbearingly blaaaaaa..., and it only seems to be on a downward spiral. Intuitively I get a pretty good feeling when a project is gonna be good, and for the most part, my intuition is pretty spot on, but if I'm really following my feelings it really seems like this is a really forced and feeble effort. I'd love to be wrong. I have neither any particular attachment or detachment from the Eternals and I have no reason to hope this thing bombs. I had zero expectations for GOTG, but the closer it got to release the better it started to look. This is that but in reverse.
This wave is gonna peg warm big time!
Looking at the back of the box, mkaes me tink more of a Phalanx. If anything, he'll work as one of those

Well I did say I wasnt gonna knock the movie just because the appearances of the characters look bland AF to me. I dont even know much about the Eternals anyway. Neither did I know much about GotG butI was looking forward to seeing that . These characters Ive seen thus far just dont look that appealing to me; thats all.

Gotta say, I see this figure and all I see is the base for a Dark Carnage custom figure.
I'll give Marvel a lot of rope before saying they've hanged themselves, but that honestly looks like they've lifted a design from DC's movie villains. Kind of uninspired and considering what he looks like in the books, rather dull
And while I dont care for how this guy looks, I mean the Abomination from the Incredible Hulk didnt look this bad over ten years ago, this could be Disney saying that they know the Eternals arent that exciting so they just wipe the slate clean and creat all new looks because... who cares?!?
outside of the names of the characters there is almost zero connection from the comics to this film, and if Im being honest I dont really hate that approach. Cuz nothing was going to get me excited about the Eternals. And from what Ive seem of the costumedesigns a bunch of normal looking people in robes isnt going to change that opinion.
with such low expectations why not do a take on a franchise that they can literally go in any direction. May be the only shot to be a sleeper hit
So while this version of Kro is certainly unique, i might suggest that they know they need to change the looks of these characters because many of the original designs are not that great either.
and if there is one MCU movie where they can allow some creative freedom to change or improve on character appearances its this one.
i think this movie succeeds becauseof the marketing juggernaut that Disney can throw behind it and the cast. However I also suspect that they are getting the entire cast out in one fell swoop because there wont be a second wave..
