Avengers: Doomsday Won't be in IMAX Opening Weekend

U.S. MCU fans will likely have to wait at least three weeks to see Avengers: Doomsday in IMAX. As first reported by Gizmondo, per an IMAX investor presentation, Dune: Part Three has secured exclusive rights to domestic IMAX screens for its opening on December 18, 2026. That is the same date that Avengers: Doomsday debuts. This conflict, dubbed "Dunesday" by fans, stems from Disney shifting their release date. When the House of Mouse made the call to move the film, it landed in the same slot already claimed by the final chapter of the Dune trilogy.

Dune: Part Three was filmed extensively with IMAX cameras and secured the date before Disney moved Doomsday to December. Avengers: Doomsday will still play in IMAX in select international markets on opening weekend, it is just locked out of U.S. IMAX screens. Fans in the U.S. can still see Doomsday on other premium large formats, such as Dolby Cinema or ScreenX, during its opening weekend. A similar situation is expected for Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July 2026, which reportedly lost its IMAX window to Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey.

At this point just release a stinkin actual trailer, for the first time since the dawn of the MCU, I'm like feeling fatigue'd on the roll out with this one, it's more likely because I can't look at social media without seeing a constant "rumour" and speculation and it's exhausting, I don't care anymore, I'll see the move, just shush yer faceholes, no I don't believe a thing.

Also I Know I have not seen RDJ's protrayal of Doom and how it might be connected to Tony, but I still dislike the whole thing and I kinda just wanna see it end as fast as possible so we can get a real Doom, And this film is just feeling more and more like a foolish carnival ride, rather then an actually made to be anything good Marvel film.

I already just want more Wonderman like media...at least I didn't sigh 45 times watching it, like ooh yeah get a weekend at bernie's Bill Bixby in there and a Pre-MCU Man-Thing, oh oh put actual animated characters in there, do it.

I don't have much hope for these movies. I am looking forward to them just to see how things play out with the multiverse. I would like to see Toby, Hugh Jackman, and the rest interact with the Avengers before I walk off from these movies.

I'm actually just as excited for Dune Messiah as Doomsday. Don't love that they are opening at the same time. I'm gonna see them both, of course, but not sure its for the best.

That Doomsday poster is fanart by a certainmrandrew7w7 on DeviantArt. Couldn't find the source for the Brand New Day one, but it's also fanart.

During Hasbro's Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2025 Financial Results report today they revealed these new posters for the upcoming MCU Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31) from Sony and Avengers: Doomsday (December 18). The image quality is small but we blew them up some to give you a look at them.I don't know if this is promotional materials that will be officially used by Disney but it gives us looks at Doom and a new Spider-Logo for Spider-Man. If we see hi-res images of these posters released we will update you here.

The X-Men trailer was fun, if only because Prof X and Cyc were wearing comic accurate suits, I still think these characters even showing up in any context in the MCU is stupid fest, but what I think means nothing, they are all obviously going to get wiped out and it is all just fan service, and nostalgia bait...it's fluff.

also OMG is poor Ian like 100 now? he looks like he can barely open his eyes, leave him alone, I almost though Gandalf was crossing over into the MCU.

Although I usually fall for it, I agree on this being nostalgia bait, and I feel bringing back the Fox cast just delays, and dilutes the effect of, a new X-Men cast.

But if they are going to do it, Im glad they included Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, who are both (thankfully) willing and able to work at 86/85 years old, and are very good friends.

While Stewart has said he plans to retire from films after Doomsday, McKellen still works in theatre and has hinted that he will be returning as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is scheduled to begin filming in May.

I noticed they ditched all the jewelry on Namor's face. Good.

I hope Namor doesn't try to flirt with Sue and make Reed look like a cuck. I'm tired of seeing those jokes about Sue leaving Reed for Namor. They have one of the longest-lasting marriages in the main 616 universe, and despite road bumps, they are still happily married.

This so much. I hate the Reed cuck with a passion. Like ok jokes whatever, but trying to make that a personification get that bs out of here. I dont even want to see people try and manifest it.
