Spider-Man: Brand New Day Tops Star Wars: The Force Awakens as North America’s Highest-Grossing Film

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially claimed the domestic box office crown, passing Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing film of all time in North America.

The Tom Holland sequel has reached $936.773 million domestically, narrowly edging past the $936.662 million earned by Lucasfilm's 2015 blockbuster.

The next question is whether Brand New Day can become the first film to cross $1 billion at the domestic box office. After 47 days in theaters, that milestone may require an eventual rerelease, but the prospect remains within reach.

Globally, the film has climbed to $2.4 billion, making it the third-highest-grossing movie ever. It still trails Avengers: Endgame, which stands at $2.7 billion, and Avatar, which remains No. 1 with $2.9 billion.

While Brand New Day now holds the all-time domestic record, its reign may face an immediate challenge from Avengers: Endgame, which sits roughly $80 million behind and will add grosses from its Endgame Encore theatrical run to its lifetime total. As past rereleases for films like Avatar and Titanic have shown, a return to theaters can quickly reshape the all-time box office chart.

Haven't seen the Endgame rerelease yet but based on what I've heard, one of the new end credit scenes should have been a post-credit scene for BND. No spoilers, but it would be cool if a BND rerelease includes that scene.

Still haven't seen it, hopefully remedied this weekend since my wife is having surgery next week and will pretty much be out of commission to do anything for a number of weeks after that, and I DO want to see it in theaters.

Saw it with Wifey last weekend, we loved it! Thoroughly enjoyable start to finish. My critiques are minor, ala Scorpion not having any kind of mask or helmet with that elaborate scorpion armor just looked odd, but whatever. Jean Grey being the baddie....didn't see that coming, but it was interesting take, and I really enjoyed that actress's performance. Frank and Spidey make for quite the odd couple, but you know....I kinda dug it, lol! Any how, really happy for the film's success!

Oh 100%. We really need an updated Spidey, Punisher, Jean, Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang and Tombstone. 6-figure wave with a deluxe Scorpion maybe?

Agreed, but I would also say we need an updated Hulk after that monstrosity, lol.

I'm waiting for that billion dollar movie second wave treatment from Hasbro or first full out wave if you like.

I've pretty much stopped buying physical movies, but Disney won't get this for like 3 years or whatever cause of Sony. So I usually buy the Spidey movies. This one was so good, I just preordered the second I saw this.

Well deserved. This was not only the best MCU Spider-Man movie but the best live-action Spider-Man movie ever made. And for sure one of the best MCU movies since Endgame. I loved every minute of it and I really hope we get to see this turn into a new Tom trilogy. I'd love to see him complete his second trilogy before he transitions to Miles' mentor.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said!

$360 million DOMESTICALLY. That's nuts. If you're lucky nowadays, that's something a movie might do worldwide.
