Marvel Launches New Spider-Woman Ongoing Series From Dan Watters And Andrea Broccardo This November

Marvel is launching a new ongoing Spider-Woman series this November, with writer Dan Watters and artist Andrea Broccardo taking Jessica Drew into what the publisher describes as her darkest chapter yet.

The new series follows the creative team's story in September's Spider-Woman 50th Anniversary Special #1 and spins out of events in Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity #5, where Jessica Drew comes into possession of one of Marvel's most dangerous villains. The development sets the stage for a noir-tinged mystery that returns the character to her roots as a private investigator.

In the new ongoing title, Jessica teams with journalist Ben Urich to investigate crimes and conspiracies lurking in the darker corners of the Marvel Universe. As the cases grow increasingly dangerous, she's forced to confront the darkness within herself while keeping the bloodthirsty Carnage under control.

The anniversary special, due out in September, also features a backup story from Daredevil writer Ann Nocenti, who returns to the character alongside artist Stefano Raffaele for a story celebrating Spider-Woman's 50-year history.

Watters said the ongoing series expands on the version of Jessica introduced in the anniversary issue.

"I'm over the moon that Andrea and I are continuing the story of the mysterious Spider-Woman we start in the Anniversary special," Watters said. "Investigating leads too dangerous for the Daily Bugle's journalists, Jess will uncover some of the strangest crimes in New York City. And in a town like this? That's saying a lot."

Broccardo said the title leans heavily into detective noir while incorporating horror elements that are new for the character.

"I'm super excited to be part of Jessica Drew's new chapter," Broccardo said. "This series is a detective noir story, with Jessica tormented by something that changes her life, her superhero behavior and her approach to the cases as a detective. It also has horror and gore, which is unusual for Spider-Woman, but super stimulating for me."

Marvel's new Spider-Woman #1 arrives in comic shops this November, marking the beginning of a new ongoing era for Jessica Drew as the publisher continues its celebration of the character's 50th anniversary.
