Deadline has revived a
rumor that first surfaced last September stating that ABC may be planning on bringing another Marvel series to it's network with Agent Carter.
Peggy Carter who was originally played by Hayley Atwell was Steve Rogers/Captain America's love interest during his World War II days and first appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger. She later appeared in a one-shot that was part of the extras on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray release.
According to Deadline ABC is looking launch an Agent Carter series as a bridge between the fall and spring portions of Marvel's existing series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which launched on the network earlier this year. That is assuming of course S.H.I.E.L.D. is even renewed for a second season. Deadline seems pretty sure that it will, but the show got off to a slow start and had it's
worst ratings ever last week for the episode "Turn, Turn, Turn". An episode that had a heavy tie-in with Marvel's latest movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Many have speculated that the reason for last weeks low ratings of S.H.I.E.L.D. was due to the fact that many people who had not yet seen Winter Soldier stayed away in fear of having the movie spoiled for them. The fact the network plans to re-air last weeks episode this week before airing a new episode called ''Providence'' at a special 9PM ET time may ad credence to that theory. However if S.H.I.E.L.D. fails to perform well this week in the rating department its hard to say if ABC will in fact renew the show for another season.
As for an Agent Carter series. If the network does in fact green light it, it remains to be seen if Atwell will return to play the starring role.
