UPDATE: According to multiple sources, Morgan has not been cast in the series. It turns out Morgan was merely filling in for the read-through. As for the title,
Entertainment Weekly has confirmed it’s not the official name for the series as of yet, but it is the current working title.
X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner
twitted the news that FOX's new mutant drama is being called "Gifted" and The Originals and The Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan has been cast, as Morgan can be seen in the photo.
The Originals' season hasn't been decided yet if it will be renewed or not and with Morgan being casted, it's future can be in doubt. Even though Morgan could also just be a guest star in the Gifted pilot. The character listed for both Morgan and the previously-cast Sean Teale on their name cards in the photo are the same - "Eclipse." Teale's Marcos Diaz/Eclipse is a mutant created for Gifted -- which will blend new and familiar mutants -- who can absorb and manipulate photons. Whether Morgan is playing some sort of connected character or they are protecting who he's truly playing remains to be seen.
The cast includes Jamie Chung as the mutant Blink; Blair Redford as the mutant Thunderbird; Stephen Moyer as an attorney named Reed; Amy Acker as Reed's estranged wife, Caitlin; Natalie Alyn Lind as one of their mutant children, Lauren; Percy Hynes White as Andy; Coby Bell as Jace; and Emma Dumont as Polaris.
The action-adventure project focuses on two ordinary parents (Moyer, Acker) who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. The Fox’s Marvel action-adventure pilot is being writtrn by Matt Nix and directed by Bryan Singer.
