Daredevil: Born Again to End With Season 3 as Marvel Shakes Up Its TV Strategy

Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again is heading toward its final chapter. The Charlie Cox-led series will conclude with its upcoming third season, which has already wrapped production and is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2027.

Cox first brought the blind lawyer-turned-vigilante Matt Murdock to life in Netflix’s Daredevil, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018. Nearly a decade later, Marvel revived the beloved character with Daredevil: Born Again, bringing back several familiar faces, including Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Wilson Bethel as Bullseye.

The news of the show’s conclusion also comes amid a significant shake-up behind the scenes. Showrunner Dario Scardapane, who guided the series through its revival, has reportedly parted ways with Marvel after his contract expired and was not renewed. His departure is particularly notable because it comes during post-production on Season 3, just months after filming wrapped.

The decision to bring Born Again to an end also arrives as Disney and Marvel Studios rethink their approach to streaming television. Rather than releasing a steady stream of live-action superhero series on Disney+, Marvel is placing greater emphasis on theatrical releases and a more selective television slate.

That strategy shift has already affected other Marvel projects. The studio recently reversed its renewal of Wonder Man for a second season, leaving VisionQuest and the final season of Daredevil: Born Again among the remaining major live-action pillars of Marvel’s current Disney+ lineup.

For fans who have followed Cox’s Daredevil from Netflix to Disney+, the third season now carries an even bigger significance: it could mark the final time the Man Without Fear headlines his own series.

This has to lead into Daredevil team up with Spidey for his next movie, after that they can even do bigger crossover Marvel Knights movies or just solo Daredevil movies.

Has to be. If they're going to finalize on VisionQuest and DD3, there's not much they can do with all their subsequent cancellations and indefinite "delays." Maybe more things along the lines of a special like the Punisher one. But I think they should have at least 1 ongoing show, kind of like the DCU has been doing with The Peacemaker, then Penguin, now Lanterns. MCU needs to match its hype. I honestly think Wonderman can bring them to that with its quality and the Defenders if done correctly. I really just want Wonderman back; it felt so different from the MCU. Less formulaic.

Cancelling Wonderman was a huge mistake.

Definitely interesting to see where they will go with Daredevil after this season. His popularity means this is definitely not the end.

That was my thought. They didn't just bring Punisher back to be one and done. They also haven't put all this into making Daredevil super hot just to put it out to pasture again. I'm also certain that the failure of the original Defenders series leaves a bad taste they want to get rid of.

OK, so the logical thing to do next is pivot to the Defenders series

Time for DD to join the Avengers...

Or.maybe just team up with Spidey to take down the Kingpin once and for all (until next time)

Agreed. We heard this multiple times last year as well. Season 3 is it. So, I don't necessarily think this has to do with any "shake ups". I always just thought that Born Again would be over and either movies or a Daredevil Man Without Fear (or some other subtitle) series would take it's place.

I feel like while it's the end of the series, it's not the end of either Charlie Cox or Vincent D'Onofirio in the rolls. The fact that they're bringing back other characters from the Netflix era leads me to believe they've got more planned, just not centered around Daredevil only.

I liked her in the first series; still, could this picture we're seeing be a flashback scene, and not necessarily that she's returning as an active character in the ongoing story? Then again her body was never recovered after the Midland Circle building collapsed at the end of The Defenders. Stay tuned to find out!

Throughout the last season there were multiple easter eggs hinting at Elektra
