by Jay Cochran
July 20, 2013
The Hasbro/Marvel panel from the 2013 San Diego Comic Con features Adam Biehl (Vice President, Global Marvel Line at Hasbro), Jesse Falcon (Director of Hardlines, Marvel), Dwight Stall (Senior Marvel Product Design Manager, Hasbro) and Maalvika Mantripragada (Sr. Manager, Global Marvel Line at Hasbro).
We are bringing you live coverage of this panel as it happens so be sure to refresh your browser often over the course of the next hour.
Intros are made and now they are going over the SDCC exclusives.
Wolverine 6" Legends. Now a Previews exclusive. the swaps originally slated for this line are on hold for now.
Assembles will see Red Snapper and Mark 42 and off screen bonus armor which is a Walk Mart
That 3.75" armored box set with Tony Stark and articulated Mark 42 will be an Amazon.com exclusive.
Thor: The Dark World 3.75" figures will be out in October and is the most articulated movie line they have ever done. Thor, Dark Elf, Loki and Second Thor and a reveal on Sunday for one last one.
Marvel Universe: Wave 5 Omega Red, Northstar and Aurora, Black Knight and X-Force Nightcrawler.
3-Packs are coming to an end with the Asgardian and Astonishing X-Men sets.
Marvel Universe is not going away, its just being renamed Avengers as a merchandise decision. This will help them get the waves out and how they roll through the inventory. They want to tie things in with the movies and tv entertainment. Packaging will look different from the kid stuff. This is also away to refresh their brand in the eyes of retailers.
2014 will see:
Grim Reaper, Hyperion (new version) and more to come.
A new member will be joining the Marvel team, Bobby Valla.
Marvel Legends:
The final wave of Marvel Legends as we know it will be Marvel Now Thor, Agent Venom, Tigershark with swap Radioactive Man, Moonstone with swap Songbird and Blizzard with swap Batroc. Jubilee is the BAF. Jubilee will mark a new mold with a new teenage female body.
2014 Marvel Legends will be merged with the various movie lines but we will still see the same quality and obscure characters. They won't all be movie based characters.
Marvel Now Captain America and Baron Zemo (Comic) will be in the Captain America Legends line, Red Skull Movie, AIM Soldier (Movie). These originally would have been a swap. The best way to ensure to get these is to pre-order an entire case online when they go up for order. This will be like the Giantman wave from Toy Biz that was released years ago. The BAF for the Cap line will be an army builder.
For Spider-Man Legends we will see a comic version of Black Cat which uses the Moonstone body and Ultimate Green Goblin will be a BAF.
Star-Lord comic will be coming to 6" next year.
There will be some more reveals tomorrow in the Hasbro booth after the Movie panels later tonight.
If sales are good into 2014 for Marvel Universe we could see things like that Devil Dinosaur seen in Hasbro's diorama case be made.
Panel images uploaded.
No wings for the 6" Songbird figure.
The variants for the first 3 waves have been made so it only makes sense for them to find some way to release those figures, likely as an exclusive.
Jesse Falcon feels very good with how Hasbro is now structuring these Marvel Universe and Legends lines around the movie properties and how it will allow them to get the type of products collectors want.
Hasbro's corporate policy makes it so the brand team can't communicate directly with fans on message boards. They watch them but can respond on them. Hasbro Q&A's might come back.
Jesse Falcon says Marvel is very happy with how Hasbro has been handling the Marvel line and they know it's not easy to do in today's market and conditions. Since the relaunch of Legends he could not be more proud with the work Hasbro has done.
Playskool Marvel line will continue.
Jesse hates Stryfe. Dwight loves Stryfe. They are rebuilding using the Hyperion body as the base. The one shown a year ago was scrapped. They have to sneak it past Jesse though ;)
AIM soldier figure for 6" line was a figure that is being made due to fan demand.
