How does Hasbro's first Marvel Build-A-Figure fare? Let's take a look.
Annihilus, a good character choice being a classic villain in Fantastic Four comics of the 80's but also, an integral part of the big Marvel Comics 2006 event featuring several cosmic characters such as Silver Surfer, Nova, Super-Skrull and more. With that, I wish they would have included at least one cosmic character in this set to go with Annihilus. A completely new Silver Surfer would be great. Annihilus stands just as tall as Planet Hulk and an impressive wingspan that far surpasses that of any Marvel Legend or related 6" Marvel toy thus far.
Sculpt / Design
I'm sure you were expecting this but, Annihilus doesn't stand very well. His wings are too heavy (surprised?) and legs are too weak (surprised?) to keep him balance properly. On top of this he is constantly looking downward unless you put his legs and/or waist into an awkward position to get him to look straight or up a little. Once you get Annihilus standing, in terms of sculpt and design, yes he looks great. Especially the wingspan. The entire figure is sculpted beautifully and finely detailed. Every little bit of Annihilus features a nice texture which makes him top notch sculpt-wise. Aside from Annihilus having trouble balancing / standing and looking down, this would have been a great score.

Paint / Color
It seems that very early buyers of the Annihilus Series have received an awfully mis-colored pink costume for their Annihilus Build-A-Figure. Hasbro's later shipments have corrected the color to purple as seen on the back of the packaging. Since I only have a fully assembled pink costume version I'm going to score this version. Shame on Hasbro for goofing up their very first BAF in their very first Marvel Legends wave. I'm glad that it seems that they are correcting it so quickly but, the mistake was still made. I suggest you double-check your parts before assembling your Annihilus figure.
The black wash on the arms, legs and head are astonishing and really bring out the details and life of the sculpt. The wings have a darker green airbrush to them. The costume is pink. Not purple as shown at SDCC or on the very packaging for the Annihilus Series, but pink. For what it is, the paint apps are nice on the costume with airbrushed pink w/ slight purple highlights and some sparkles. It's uglier than sin, but it's applied well. I'm disappointed that they failed to paint the shoulder armor. It would have benefited so much from the exact same black wash that they gave the legs and arms, why did they skip this?
Score: 5
Articulation
Annihilus possesses a surprising 36 POA (Points of Articulation)! Two of which are for the wings. That's two total not each being that the end of the wings insert via a ball into a socket. This is different from his ball joint shoulders and hips as an example which count as two each due to the disc inside the ball. For this entire wave, Annihilus is the only figure to feature the four finger articulation on each hand. One huge limitation to this figure's articulation is the lack of a wrist or forearm swivel. This limits Annihilus' ability to do the typical reach out and clutch like Darth Vader would or shake his fists in the air like you'd see Dr. Doom say, "I'll get you next time Reed!". Due to the weight of the wings, the ab crunch, hip, knee and ankle joints tend to give to gravity's way and Annihilus goes toppling over (again). The head is always sort of looking down because of poor range of motion due to either a bad POA and/or the collar blocking the way.

Ouch! The score makes this figure look like the worst in the lot, but honestly looking at him,
even in his pink outfit, he is one cool figure and worth buying an extra figure to assemble. He looks good in person just looks bad on paper. Hasbro has their work cut out for them to get a good score out of me on their next BAF. All it takes is a balanced figure and no production running changes and I'll be a much happier collector. This didn't fit into any of the categories but Annihilus should have come with a stand of some sort to get him in mid-air. In the end, Hasbro's Marvel Legends - Annihilus Series is a good wave and I recommend you pick up a set, just try to make sure you get all of the Annihilus pieces with matching colors.
