My Super Adaptoid arrived today from BBTS (along with Hyperion/Doctor Spectrum, Allen the Alien, Clawful and Ram-Man) and I have to say that I'm quite pleased with it. Yes it's mostly re-use of the 12" Icons line from a few years ago, but it works great!

I have no problem with Hasbro re-using molds and parts to get us figures that we likely wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Not everything can be a brand new sculpt - in fact it really probably has to be be kept relatively rare. I'm also not one of those people that needs a crazy amount of accessories that I'm likely just going to throw in to a bin and never use again (except on a custom for a totally different character). I'm happy to keep it bare bones and reuse parts to keep price points realistic. I'm not someone who would ever splurge on an import figure (despite paying up for Galactus and 3 Sentinels). I'm also about world building so I want as many characters as possible and don't need an older character to be updated time and time again for minor improvements. If I had my way I'd never buy another Spider-Man or Wolverine again but would quickly buy just about any even slightly relevant character they produce that hasn't been made before. There are still a crap ton of characters with 1,000 or more comic appearances that have yet to ever be made in 1:12 scale plastic. I keep a list that I update several times per year.

Yes, this was an expensive figure - but costs are never going to go down. When compared to price increases for things we all have to buy on a regular basis the inflation on these figures has been grossly overstated. Just look at the inflation on things such as houses, vehicles, education, health care and groceries over the past 20 years and then you'll quickly realize that the inflation on these figures has actually been very tame in comparison. My first house that I bought in 2000 cost $85,000. That same small old house sold for over $400,000 recently. When I was growing up in the 80's/90's you could buy a brand new pick up truck for under $10k easy, now good luck finding one under $50,000. The tuition at public state colleges is 4 times what it was when I graduated in the late 90's. I remember paying 77 cents for a gallon of gas as a young adult after I graduated from college. As a secondary gig, I run a ebay business out of my home and I can tell you that I'm paying 30% more in shipping costs on average per item than I paid just a year ago. I got paid $11 per hour for my first professional office job out of college in 1997, both of my boys' first part-time jobs in high school paid safely more than that in recent years. My first part-time job in high school paid $1.80 per hour in high school (1989). The average college grad now gets paid around $35 per hour for their first job. Everything gets more expensive. Prices on these figures seemed to be frozen at that magical $20 price point for a long time and I just don't think that we appreciated that it lasted as long as it did.

Not only that, has anyone recently picked up one of the crappy figures that Hasbro did during those few years when they got the license and compared it to what we get now? Pick up that old Diamond Emma Frost or Tigra from the early 2010's and compare it to the recent releases.... Take a look at that early Hasbro Ultimate Wolverine or that TRU exclusive all silver one just to remind yourself how far things have come. Pick up that Black Queen Jean Grey and compare it to what we have now, or that old movie Kelsey Grammar movie Beast. It took me a very long time to come around on Hasbro as I let their early work cloud my perception of them far longer than it should have. Up until just 2-3 years ago I still strongly preferred the old Toy Biz stuff even though Hasbro had surpassed them in many ways long before then. In my opinion, Hasbro is mostly knocking it out of the park right now at a reasonable price point. I buy stuff from Mattel and McFarlane too and I think that Hasbro is consistently doing a much better job than those two are. NECA/Mezco/MAFEX/etc are all too expensive for me so I don't consider them realistically comparative.

Sorry for the rant. I just get fed up with the negativity from this community sometimes. People can and absolutely should spend their money as they see fit, but sometimes I wonder if some of the folks on here even enjoy this hobby at all. I often feel like there are several members here who haven't bought a figure in years but just come here to complain (which is certainly their right, but I just don't understand it).

You're right about everything in this and it is also very eerie how closely your order list is to mine. Minus the Super Adaptiod. How cool are Clawful and Ram Man? I haven't received mine yet. Were you as on the fence about that Deluxe Beast Man as I was too? I decided to wait and see on that one.

Anyway I'm not against reusing parts and maximizing costs at all. I'm actually very pro-reusing parts. My problme is with them just going all out unconscious with re-used parts and calling it new. On some characters it's totally understandable. Like Blizzard needed little more than a new coat of paint and a somewhat accurate head sculpt which I'm pretty sure has been used several times by now and he was good to go. It is what it is. He's not that complicated. But Super Adaptiod he is. They're just going all out lazy about a character it seems everyone wanted and do him dirty like that? It is a new head sculpt. That is always something I will give credit to Hasbro for. All for about a few females that have similar appearances they do put out for a new head sculpt most of the time. But other than that it is 100 re-use on a character that is mostly unique. As far as the body it's cool. The 12 in line is defunct and I don't think anyone will complain about it being used in the ML line. The Hammer the shield the Unibeam are all appropriate but man or man is the Bow and Arrow and the Wings too much to expect? I guess it is. At least for me. It just isn't accurate for the version it looks like they were going for. I guess for the most part he's good enough and if you or anyone else is happy with it I'm happy for you. Truly. It's just that I feel like we waited so long and I was so excited by the announcement I just expected more. Especially at that price.

And yes I do have a graps on inflation but after that long standing $20 we had a 3 tier price bump and probably more based on things like the Spider-Man 3 pack. Bad or acceptable it only made me a more discerning customer and this just isn't cutting it for me.. I also remember the Dark Days of Hasbro as Sharty so lovingly calls it but it was what it was and it was all we had at the time and I personally expected them to get better over time and they did to their credit. They got good enough that I don't even mind when they go and redo characters like the fabulous Spiral or Blob or Klaw or Emma Frost or Extremis Iron Man. I actually appreciate it a lot and I shudder to think what ML would look like in the hands of another manufacturer like Mattel or Jakks or the diaper cladding McFarlane. But I don't think expecting them to get better at their jobs over time is a good enough excuse for them to just put in the effort every once in a while and then go fully brain dead on something like this and just expect us not to complain. And I agree with you about a new character is a new character but as I keep saying I'm becoming more and more cuatios about what I fork out for these days and I let my money do as much talking as I do in cases like this. LIke I keep saying. It's just my opinion and my preference on the subject and I was taught long ago that when you have an opinion it's probably best if you have some reasoning to back it up so I've always done so. Credit that to miss Ardiss in high school who always called me a good communicator but a bad writer. And a horrible speller.

Anyway don't forget to let me know how that Clawful and Ram Man turned out. Message me.

Our friend @AndyLwas correct to say this is a lazy effort. From a billion dollar company, and arguably THE leading action figure company, this is lazy. The negativity is something hasbo brought on themselves, and it certainly is not restricted to this forum. But most people complaining are doing it because they want better, and know hasbo can DO better. We need look no further than Spiral for that. A female figure, which we know they traditionally do poorly on, and one with an intricate power set. Yet it looks exactly like it did from the comics! Legends team should take a bow because its really well done.

But this is the standard that should be applied to ALL their figures. If they just can't get it together for this or that figure, it should be set aside for when they have the time and patience to do it correctly. At what point during the production of the Super Adaptoid did they say "fam, we're not quite there yet, lets tackle this one next year"? No, just slap it together, who cares. I doubt a customizer would have put something like this out there and sign their name to it. Products typically only improve from customer satisfaction/suggestions and feedback, and that's what is seen here. Customers are complaining because they want accurate figures for the money they're handing over. There's nothing wrong with that. But if those customers are consistently ignored, and instead handed sub-par products, they're going to look elsewhere. Hasbro's got the skill and talent to do this right. Let's get them to go in that direction.

Despite everyone seeming to be disgruntled about this release, I'm on the opposite side, I love this figure, I'm just happy we got a Super Adaptoid at all, would I have liked wings? yes, but can I look past it yes, sure this is mostly re-used parts from 12'' figures, but I think it was well done enough, clever actually, I'm not going to moan about this one here, I think it's fun we got this figure at all and welcome it into the collection, I don't really see them ever going back to giving us another Adaptoid. Yeah me buying this at it's price (which is really high) and not complaining about accuracy does make me part of the problem, but I don't care. Super Adaptoid was pretty variable on his appearance and power sets so this works for me.

Yes. As I said. I was able to see all these pictures as well but they are of much later versions and even versions where he adapted other powers non related to the Avengers such as the Sinister Six and I guess some random blank body and is clearly not what this figure is based off of. As part fo the Avengers Anniversary line and from just any 6 year olds ability to see what this figure is based off of he's clearly meant to be modeled after the older versions where he battled the Avengers and adapted their powers. I'm not trying to start an argument it just seems cheap. Actually it is cheap but not in price and after such a long wait it would have been nice for a little more effort. Plenty of people are goning to be happy with it I'm sure but with today's prices and the amount of effort they put into all the MCU product I'm just needing a little more. As even MCU Colelctor says. Another pair of hand would have at least been nice.

Yes. Thank you for the confirmation. I've been looking at as many pictures of this character and as many old comcis online as pssible and especially the older classic pictures that this figure seems to be modeled after because newer versions have more dynamic and complicated designs. It's very hard to find any pictures of SA without wings and arrows. Actually it is many times easier to find him without the IM Unibeam than without the wings and arrows. I know that it is literally in his name that he adapts but this simply looks like some version of him pulled out of thin air. As much as they like to use the excuse that they just use Google to find out what these characters look like they certainly didn't do that here. In the end it just looks like they went through and used the cheapest and easiest means to create the figure to somewhat appease the fans and get a pretty nice cash grab using all reused parts. There was a 12 inch Cap that they reused the sheild from. And there was 12 inch Thor they got from the Hammer from and there was a 12 inch IM they just cast the Unibeam from. Hawkeye and Wasp never got the 12 inch treatment so it's easy to see why their powers didn't make the cut. There is literally nothing new about this character aside from the headsculpt which is essential to any new character but otherwise it's 100 percent minimum efforet. Sorry Hasbro you're going to have to do a lot better to get my money.

They should be, granted his powers can change but Wings and Bow are part of his default power set

It seems that this been met mostly with negative comments, but mine is on it's way from BBTS and should be here tomorrow along with Hyperion and Doctor Spectrum. I couldn't be more excited as I've wanted something like this for a long time. Sure, it's not perfect - but rarely are they ever. I'll be very happy to add it to my collection! Bring on more previously unmade characters, please - I certainly don't ever need another Spider-Man or Hulk!
