2013 SDCC Marvel Universe & Legends News & Images
Jay Cochran - July 17, 2013
Preview Night has kicked off at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con and we had a chance to talk with Hasbro's Marvel Man Dwight Stall (Senior Marvel Product Design Manager) who has given us a bunch of info for both their Marvel Legends and Marvel Universe lines. Here is the info we got broken down.
- The Marvel Legends variants and where are they? Dwight tells us that they are aware of the problems getting the variants from the first 3 waves of Marvel Legends out. The figures have been made but due to distribution problems they are now looking at new ways to get those figures into collectors hands, possibly as a TRU exclusive wave or something like that. For the variants going forward they feel they have corrected the problems and that those variants should make it out to shelves like originally planned. For most I am sure this will be a "I will believe it when I see it" kind of thing but Dwight really feels confidant the problems that plagued the first 3 waves of variants will no longer be an issue. Again with the first 3 waves, those are on hold for now until they find a way to get them out to collectors and the most likely bet will be some kind of store exclusive, but because the figures have been made he feels very confident they will see release eventually.
- Large Build-A-Figures will return in 2014. When we say large we mean 8-9" like the recently released Iron Monger figure in the Iron Man Legends wave. Jubliee will be the Build-A-Figure in the third wave of Marvel Legends for 2013.
- Orange Fing Fang Foom is canceled.
- Dwight tells us that Moonstone is the only figure from the 2013 SDCC Marvel Legends Thunderbolts set that will see general release any time soon. So if you want Luke Cage or any of the others you better pick up the Comic-Con set.
- For Marvel Universe fans, changes are coming in 2014. This line will be re-christened simply the Avengers line. The figures will stay they same, same style, same articulation, but they will no longer be called Marvel Universe. One of the reasons for this change is they feel this re-branding will help with the Marvel Universe distribution problems. Which makes sense as retailers will relate a line named Avengers more to the movies and animated properties that they like to sell product for.
- There was a Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur in Hasbro's Marvel Universe diorama display case. No word on if this is a custom job or something that will actually see release. Same goes for the weird Ultron in the case.
That is it for now. Keep it to Marvelous News throughout the weekend for more news, reveals and images from the the 2013 San Diego Comic Con.
