Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: MVL) announced today that it has named SEGAL Licensing as its new licensing representative in Canada. SEGAL will oversee all sales, retail, merchandising and marketing of the Marvel brand in Canada, a strategically important market that has tremendous growth potential for the company.

The appointment of SEGAL is part of an aggressive strategy to expand Marvel’s presence in territories that have previously been underserved and reflects the company’s commitment to continued international growth. This emphasis comes as Marvel Studios builds momentum on the production of its slate of self-produced feature films based on some of its marquee Super Hero franchises. The first two films in the slate, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, are scheduled for release in summer 2008.

SEGAL will look to expand current relationships with licensees as well as cultivate new categories and product innovations. SEGAL will work closely with licensees on product development, design and sku plans, and will work with Canadian retailers to secure retail support and distribution that will help ensure Marvel products thrive in the marketplace.

“SEGAL has a truly unparalleled knowledge of the Canadian landscape and will bring a greater focus for Marvel in Canada, utilizing their tremendous experience creating and managing major licensing and retail initiatives for some of the most successful entertainment properties. We will look to leverage their experience with retailers, manufacturers and other companies in the marketplace to help expand Marvel’s presence in Canada in a meaningful way and significantly grow our business there,” said Paul Gitter, President of Consumer Products for North America, Marvel Entertainment.

“SEGAL Licensing is thrilled to be working with the super heroes of the licensing industry,” said Stuart Pollock, President SEGAL Licensing. “Marvel’s properties are hugely exciting and appealing to people of all ages. We look forward to phenomenal success by continuing to build on the strength of these amazing properties with strategic, brand-building promotions and retail programs.”
