Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man Set Unveiled with First Look at San Diego Comic-Con

July 26, 2025
At a special San Diego Comic-Con panel, Wizards of the Coast revealed new cards from Magic: The Gathering | Marvel's Spider-Man. Launching globally on September 26, 2025, the set brings Marvel’s Spider-Man and his most infamous foes and friends into Magic: The Gathering.

During today’s panel, fans in attendance were given a first look at some of the spectacular cards coming to the set, including:

● Showcase Scene cards, which combine to form a stunning scene that looks like it came straight out of a comic book.

● Art from iconic Spider-Man comic covers by artists such as Steve Ditko, featured on cards inspired by iconic characters.

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel's Spider-Man marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Magic | Marvel collaboration, following the fan-favorite Secret Lair drop earlier this year and at the end of 2024. This set invites players into a web of thrilling encounters, with cards featuring Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, along with villains including Venom, Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and more.

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel's Spider-Man brings the excitement of high-flying action and heroics to dynamic card treatments through original artwork and gameplay mechanics that reflect Spider- Man’s agility, ingenuity, and unbreakable sense of responsibility.

Additional previews and product details will roll out beginning the first week of September ahead of the set’s worldwide release on September 26. Fans can follow along at Magic.Wizards.com and join the conversation on social media using #MTGxMarvel.

I joined a Marvel Legends collector group and immediately had to leave it after seeing half of the top posts were people being snide and actually gloating about buying all of the Psylocke packs. The other half were people scalping it.

Well that's just sad andannoying...no one needs more than two figures (besides arm builders). It would be funny as hell if their figures all started breaking...the arms, the legs, neck and bodies all started to break

Yes. I was lucky to get the set, but I 100% agree. They should stop with the retailer exclusives. (I understand it's the retailers that largely are the cause of this). But I think buying figures at retail is kind of going by the wayside anyway. Especially looking at these retro re-releases. (Perhaps why retailers even do these exclusives to begin with). Just switch to MTO, you put your money down on the item, and then wait, and eventually get it. It avoids under/overproduction. And it also cuts out this scalping BS.

I mean I think that they shoudn't fully switch to an MTO style of release for everything Legends, They obviously need to make more standard waves and items readily accessible to the average buyer, parents, kids, random purchases, and they need a major retail and comic store shelf presence, which if the line was soley MTO, they would not and would really detract from sales, because it would just become a Die Hard collector based line, thats not feasible, but for items like this Savage Land pack, or say even recently Psylocke & Thanos, you can make enough for everyone, and You want our money so just set up a production run for MTO on pulse, high demand items that become scarce need an MTO option.

They have already shown they are not silly enough not to adopt that, such as for instance years ago with Hellfire Club box set.

Why are these MTG figures $40? Am I missing something?

So I feel there are a few reasons...

Hasbro already pays a premium for the licensing of Marvel to Disney. (The costs of Legends have gone up regardless of this crossover). You only have to look at what Hasbro offers with its classified line (which it owns) and the accessories you get there compared to what you get with a Black Series or a Legend. Check out the $30 Budo below. All the armor pieces/accessories compared to a $25-30 Legends. spacer.pngLicensing of Spider-Man for the Magic set. I think a lot of people may overlook or be unaware of the fact that Magic (while itself is owned by WotC, whose parent company is Hasbro)? It's a separate license for the Magic crossover. Look to the Final Fantasy Set. The cost of a single play booster went from $5/pk to $7/pk for the FF set. And it was the highest-selling set in Magic ever...in a single day. That tells you why they are looking to other properties to license for "Universes beyond." Some Magic players feel this dilutes Magic, and that's a discussion for elsewhere. But what is also worth noting is that WotC/Hasbro didn't get licensing for digital versions of the cards in this set. Why? Disney thought it would compete with Marvel Snap. So, WotC now has to make an entire alternate set for Arena. And all of that is before we discuss anything like sculpting, articulation, accessories, etc.

The card itself? Probably doesn't cost much to print. I feel these cards will have some value on the secondary market. Now for my personal take...

I bought Man-Wolf and Battle Damage Spidey. I wanted a battle-damaged Spidey, and there is a bit of uniqueness there. Agent Anti-Venom was easier to pass on due to the incorrect eyes (I could have painted them, I suppose), but even the card reflects the error in its artwork. Man-Wolf is something we have never had before, unless I am mistaken? So there is some pricing there in terms of the characters, I feel. But these sets feel like a bit of a missed opportunity. For $40, I feel they could have thrown in 2 play boosters. Better yet? If the aim is to get people interested in magic? They should've made these 60-card character-themed starter decks.

spacer.png

There is an FF Starter kit that offers two reconstructed decks, each with its own signature holofoil. Cloud and Sephiroth, respectively. So what I would have liked is if you had a battle damaged spidey 60 card starter deck. And then have a 60 card starter deck for each of the other sets. That creates more desire to collect them all regardless of whether you play magic or collect the figures. They are already printing the cards and I can't imagine bundling these with a deck would have cost that much more. I used to buy "Theme Decks" of Magic cards back when I was in highschool. For example the "Nuts and Bolts" deck of the Fifth Dawn expansion retailed for $10 way back in the day. And that FF Starter kit is $20. So about the same price more or less. That means if they bundled a deck with the figure; you get the figure at $30 (Roughly the price of a deluxe) and a Deck of cards for that Extra $10.

As much as I'd be buying this set for everything in it, I do already have the Sauron BAF, so realistically it's not the main focus of attention for me, It's most importantly Shanna (like I'd say 90 percent of people) and secondary Rogue, I would like to swap out the BAF sauron for this new one, but it's lowest priority.

That Sauron BAF and in turn this new Sauron are like still one of my All time fav Legends BAFS. But my BAF hates standing up straight and he's floppy, I have him propped up by a post.

We are pretty much in the exact same boat. I paid for the Sauron baf, well too much, and that has effected my willingness to buy. I love this character though, so a major upgrade wasnt outta the question. And yeah, he Cannot stand at all. On top of that, hes pretty heavy for the flight stands. But Shanna was pretty damn high on my list of wants.

Inspection12e - 2025-08-03 @ 6:20 pm

Most of the saurons have the floppy issue in the torso.

None of you are buying the set for the Sauron right? I would sell my Sauron from the box set or the BAF for below ebay average if that's all someone wanted.
