Robert Downey Jr; The Armor And The Alcoholism In 'Iron Man 2'

Jay Cochran - April 03, 2009
Robert Downey Jr tells Splash that the infamous fan-favorite, critically acclaimed, yet ultimately less marketable ďDemon in a BottleĒ storyline is not explored in the sequel. The controversial character arc involved Tony Stark battling alcoholism, while trying to balance his superhero responsibilities.

"I think Demon in a Bottle is probably best saved, because itís such its own storyline," "Weíre going for the interim space between the origin and Demon, which is more a look behind the mask of someone who says heís Iron Man and what it really is to become a superhero."

Downey Jr told ET that the sequel "is almost entirely about character," yet packs "twice as much action" compared to the first film.

"Essentially Iron Man 2 is about looking behind the armor, or the armature, of a superhero. Itís one thing to say youíre Iron Man, itís another thing to be fully ready to do that."
