In a recent interview with the LA Times, director Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men 2) talked about what he envisions for the plot of the X-Men prequel movie, “X-Men Origns: First Class.”
"Just doing younger mutants is not enough. The story needs to be more than that. I love the relationship between Magneto and Xavier, these two men who have diametrically opposite points of view but still manage to be friends -- to a point. They are the ultimate frenemies."
There are still a number of obstacles that stand in Singers way for doing this movie, the biggest being that he is already committed to direct "Jack the Giant Killer" for Warner Bros, so there is still a bit of negotiating to be done before things like casting can begin.
In other news from the interview, Singer is also apparently being pitched the idea of doing a fourth X-Men film by both actor Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and producer Lauren Shuler Donner. This movie which may or may not be a “Wolverine” movie is said to be set in Japan and released in 2011. Whether Singer will be attached to “X-Men 4” or not remains to be seen, as the busy director has a lot to shuffle around, and when it comes to Mutants wants to focus on “First Class” right now.
