NEW YORK — Lego is among a half-dozen new domestic licensees for Spider-Man 2 announced this week by Sony Pictures Consumer Products.
Lego has been granted worldwide rights for Spider-Man 2 construction toys, key rings featuring Lego mini-figures of the movie's characters, and storage containers/special packaging limited to buckets, tubs and tins.
Additionally, Harper Collins Children's Books has been given global rights for a movie storybook, early readers, chapter books, an 8x8 book, joke book and junior digest novelization. Consumer products companies with U.S. and Canadian rights now include Sport Fun Inc. (skateboards, snowboards, boogie boards, scooters, and a "Design a Deck" skateboard), Trends International (calendars, doodles and posters), High Point Knitting (socks), and The Jel-Sert Co. (freezer pops).
Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release during summer 2004.
Separately, Sony Pictures Consumer Products said this week that it had signed Disguise Inc. to produce Halloween costumes, masks and accessories for domestic distribution based on Underworld, this month's live-action thriller about a war between vampires and werewolves.
