Marvel Legends - What We Know After SDCC 2018

Marvel Legends - What We Know After SDCC 2018

Jay Cochran - July 25, 2018

We had a lot of reveals and information released this past weekend during the 2018 San Diego Comic Con for Hasbro's Marvel Legends line so I have put together this video and article recapping everything for you in one place.

First off Hasbro confirmed that the MARVEL STUD10'S: The First Ten Years Iron Man 3 Pepper Potts, Iron Man Mark XXII, and The Mandarin 3-pack which was originally slated to be a Toys R' Us exclusive will now be offered as a Amazon.com exclusive. The set is currently up for pre-order with a September 15 release date.

They also confirmed that the Marvel Legends Days of Future Past 18" Sentinel with Logan figure which was also originally going to be a Toys R' Us exclusive will now be offered on Amazon for $99.99. The Sentinel will be a repainted one originally done for the Marvel Universe line. Look for it to be released later this year.

Next up Hasbro revealed a second wave of 6" Marvel Legends Toy Biz Tribute figures. There will be six figures in the wave which includes Ant-Man, Wasp (blue outfit), Black Panther, Scarlet Spider with unmasked head, Sleeveless Hawkeye and Vision with a new cape and random Ultron head. The Wasp figure pays tribute for the very rare Toy Biz Marvel Legends 6" Wasp with blue outfit that only saw a small handful released.

For you Black Panther movie fans Hasbro revealed a second wave of 6" Marvel Legends figures. Originally they had not planned on doing a second wave, but since the movie did so well they rushed a second wave into production. The wave will feature all movie figures that includes Black Panther with new unmasked head, T'Chaka, Erik Killmonger in fatigues with removable Wakandian ceremonial mask, Ulysses Klaue with alternate gun arm, Vibranium Powered Black Panther and Ayo with two alternate heads so you can army build the Wakanda’s Dora Milaje. The Build-A-Figure will be M'Baku (Man-Ape).

For Spider-Man fans Hasbro began revealing the figures for the next wall-crawler themed wave. The figures revealed include Modern Symbiote Spider-Man, Red Goblin, Black Cat, Silver Sable and Kingpin which is the Build-A-Figure and feature 3 heads an diamond cane.

The X-Men will be getting another themed wave as well. The figures they revealed for it includes Reavers member Skullbuster, Blink and Gambit. They said Gambit would have stubble on his face, but the figure they showed did not. I wouldn't be surprised of they don't end up releasing a stubble and non-stubble variant version similar to what we have seen them do with the recent Mysterio and Psylocke figures. There were also indications made during Hasbro's panel that Forge and 90's Jim Lee Storm could be possibilities for the wave as well, though that is not confirmed. With Storm they took a fan poll during the panel to see if people wanted Storm in her silver, white or black outfit. This I could see as another opportunity for Hasbro do do variant versions of. The Build-A-Figure for this wave was not revealed, but again indications were hinted at during the panel that Strong Guy is a likely candidate. My guess is both Forge and Strong Guy will be done in their X-Factor outfits to go along with the recently released Multiple Man.

For the Marvel Legends 6" Riders Series Hasbro announced two new offerings with Deadpool on a red scooter with Squirrel-Pool and Dogpool. Deadpool will have a new headsculpt. The second set announced was the eagerly anticipated Professor Xavier in his 90's Hover Chair. The chair will have a removable stand that looks like a blast effect and control panels on the arms. Professor X will also come with a Cerebro helmet.

A number of new store exclusives were also announced this past weekend.

They will be re-issuing the previous SDCC exclusive Magik figure as a Walgreens exclusive. Magik will come with a sword and translucent Ghostrider like headsculpt and Lockheed.

Walmart will be getting the Netflix Luke Cage/Claire 2-Pack

Target will get a Into The Spider-Verse 2-pack featuring Miles Morales Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen. The figures will come with masked and unmasked heads as well as alternate hands, web and blast type effects.

Gamestop/Online will see 3 different exclusives. For the MARVEL STUD10'S Ten Year Line they will be doing a re-release of the Age Of Ultron Build-A-Figure Ultron figure which will feature a modified headsculpt and better paint applications. For the regular Marvel Legends line they are releasing an Archangel figure which is a re-issue of the previous one they did. The figure will come with 3 alternate heads (Four Horsemen Mask, normal blonde hair, blond hair with black around the eyes). The figure will also come with an alternate claw hand attachment for the new Apocalypse Build-A-Figure. The third exclusive will be an AIM soldier 2-pack similar to the Hydra Soldier one they did last year. The set will come with alternate heads and weapons so you can army build. The AIM 2-Pack is slated for an August release while Ultron and Archangel are due out in December. You can pre-order all three now at Megalopolis.Toys.

While not specifically mentioned during the con, Gamestop will also be releasing a Marvel Legends 6" PS4 Spider-Man game Advance Suit Spider-Man figure.

Everything listed above should be out by the end of 2018 or very early 2019.

Hasbro also made a number of teases for 2019 including an updated Hercules figure slated for a new Avengers wave. It's unknown if Hercules will be released as a regular figure or a Build-A-Figure.

Hasbro also teased a comic version of Genis-Vell in his Kree outfit. They would not say what wave it would be released in, but we speculate this is the first figure revealed for the Captain Marvel themed wave Hasbro is likely to do in conjunction with next years Captain Marvel movie.

Hasbro during their panel also showed these slides showing off more teases for 2019. It looks like we will be getting a new Magneto based on the image of his helmet, possibly re-issuing the recently released black and red outfit version repainted to look like the classic red outfit.

The 2017 Steve Rogers Captain America looks like is getting the figure treatment based on the image of the shield. A new Arnim Zola seems to be in the works as well based on that camera thing seen on the top of his head. Updated Mystique appears to be in the works based on the skull belt and possibly a new Quicksilver based on the headsculpt, though some seem to think its a new headsculpt for Magneto.

Finally during their Q&A portion of their panel, when asked about finishing out the MCU Black Order members, they said people wanting those will have their patience rewarded. When I talked to Dwight about them he also indicated how he would like to do a more movie accurate looking Cull Obsidian.

Hasbro also announced they will have a presence at the following conventions this years where they will make additional Marvel Legends reveals.

Unboxing Toy Convention in Mexico - August 4-5
Fan Expo Canada - August 30 - Sept 2
New York Comic Con - Oct 4 - 7 (This will likely be a media event only and they wont have a booth presence)
MCM Comic Con London - Oct 26 - 28
Comic Con Paris - Oct 26 - 28
Lucca Comics & Games Lucca, Tuscany Oct 31 - Nov 4

Hopefully we will see among other things a new Walgreens exclusive Dr. Doom figure announced at one of these upcoming events.

We will be looking for folks who plan on attending most of these conventions for help in covering the reveals for us, so stay-tuned for more details about that in the days to come.

For those who have been asking about the future of 12" Marvel Legends. While they aren't saying the line is done, they don't have any plans to release any more figures in 2018 or early 2019.

For 4" collectors the only figures currently planned are their Gameverse 2-packs originally announced back during Toy Fair.

Let us know in the comments section below what you liked or didn't like from the list above and what you hope to see announced later this year.

As a writer, video maker and content creator myself, Im always appreciative of a little constructive criticism... But, I think you precisely hit the nail on the headwith the tonal description of your own particular brand ofcriticism here, as it comes across very much asbeing: harsh. And I think, maybe just a little bit moody, to boot.

I cant speak for Jay C personally, as I dont know him, apart from his video content and posts on his sites. But, I can tell you that trying to keep up with myriad news articles, updates and passing information onanygiven topic especially at a crazy time like SDCC is no small feat. All of which coincides with producing daily video content which needs to be filmed, edited, uploaded, likely at horrendous internet speeds, and secured with all of the applicable, incidental information; So, yknow, youmight be able to afford the guy a break.

If not completely and totallyrework your own attitude first, and come on here in a more approachable, less somebody wizzed in my cereal tone, and make your suggestions and recommendations for anycorrections he may have to make to his post(s), in a more respectful way. Lest it be said, with the added I dont even watch your videos anymore line of B.S., which affects no one. Just sayin.

Honestly, yes. Primarily because I see it in nearly every one of your posts. I forgot to point out "Wakandian"... It's "Wakandan". Do you need an editor?

I also noticed some info from that panel missing: You didn'tmention that the Archangel, Ultron, and A.I.M. 2-Packs were also announced as Entertainment Earth exclusives along with Gamestop. I know they're now up elsewhere, but it's important to note at who specifically Hasbro is throwing their support. Also, I'd hardly call the informal fan polls for Gambit's stubble or Storm's potential costume color "official", but you didn't mention that the stubble quote was from that, or that the white costume "won."

I really depend on your site for accurate, up-to-date info for my collecting needs. I just wish you tooka little more pride in your work by adding that extra polish that takes maybe 10 extra minutes of your time. I don't even watch your videos anymore because they're just not concise. Sorry for the harsh criticisms. I just really want to see you succeed.

When the crowd was polled on which storm outfit they prefered, what was the outcome?

I thought the 90s storm would be a lock for the white outfit. Im really hoping we dont get silver instead

Hey man, I'll be going with a friend to Unboxing Toy Con in Mexico City. He has a youtube channel "One Shot Comics". You could contact him and check for coverage.

I have to deeply agree with you on this. I think the market for 12" figures is long past. it was a nice idea but at the moment 6" is where the market is. Hasbro should really use the 12" figure for larger characters.

It's a no brainer. I really do not see the demand from consumers to make giant sized versions of regular sized characters, it makes zero sense. Gimme 12 inch versions of John Byrne classic "DOFP" Sentinels such as these & I'm all over that & buying between 6-10 of em! Make a variant version of these Sentinels that fought the new mutants as well. I'd get another 6 of those as well.

No big surprise. Sorry, but Hasbro dropped the ball with making foot tall versions of normal sized characters. This is the line where they could have capitalized by making much in demand giants sized MU characters such as classic Sentinels & Kree Sentries which would be automatic army builders. both versions of Hank Pym's Giantman/Goliath looks. Evil Eric Josten Goliath as well as his Atlas look. Orca, the Stranger, Titan of the Imperial Guard. Throw in extras such as interchangeable hands/heads & I'd gladly fork over $60-$70 for these. But for foot tall versions of Spidey/Hulk/DP/CAP/IM? No gracias.
