You should read the Marvel Preview #11, the Chris Claremont, John Byrne, Terry Austin story ( BEFORE they did X-Men). It's really an epic sweep of a tale.it's been reprinted and colourized about half-a-dozen times over the years. GotG Starlord is really just SLINO, and ( i think) essentially just a reboot of the character.

Good info, I'll see if I can track it down

I'm the opposite now. I jumped on this guy when the pre-order dropped but to me, this isn't StarLord.

Hate to be that guy but I had no idea who Peter Quill was until the 1st GOTG film. And the more I see this figure the more I realize I don't recognize him. And frankly, he isn't very dynamic and he comes off as some generic space police guy.

I guess my final judgement will be once he is in hand.

As much as this isn't technically a Guardians of The Galaxy Star Lord, this is still really cool, it's a classic early Star Lord and I'm actually impressed they did this, I do really want this figure, apparently people in Canada have already found this on some Walmart pegs, wondering if that means it might come out for those who pre-ordered it online before july.

Excited to [hopefully] find this classic on the pegs soon. Cant help but roll my eyes when I see the side-by-side showing how much smaller Yondu looks.

I posted this the very first time they showed this guy. He is NOT part of the Guardians of the Galaxy. FYI, in the original story, his father suspected his mom had cheated on him and in a fit of rage, he took the infant outside with an axe to kill him. He had a heart attack and dropped dead, however, and thus little Peter Quill got to grow up. Makes you wonder just how the comic action figure community today got so squeamish lol. The character had a limited run in the color comics and then faded away until Marvel revived the Guardians with an all new appearance for him.

Anyway the box logo they're using, along with trotting him out with Yondu, is misleading at best. Shows they're either ignorant of the character or just don't care.

Now having said that, this is still the first appearance look for Starlord and if you're into deep cut obscure 70s characters, this one is fantastic. I love that they got his unique helmet, lenses and belt correct. Sadly, they cheaped out on the boots and painted them on which is why they look so silly and sloppy. Still, I'm into this figure.

Maybe there's hope for Red Wolf yet....

After reading your post I recall you laying Star Lord's origin out previously. Good stuff, your knowledge is incredible.

Funny what was able to see print back in the day. I recall an issue of the Avengers where a 10 year old continually kills himself in front of the team to prove some point that escapes me at the moment.

I'm with you on the deep dives, I'd love to see Red Wolf, Shroud, 3D Man,.. the list goes on and on.

I think I'll have to give this guy a good once over to decide if he's a keeper.
