People prefer the classics. It's the same reason Marvel has been making variant covers for most of their comics over the last several years featuring 90s throwback costumes. For the X-Men especially, the Jim Lee era costumes were so hugely popular that Marvel realizes the greatest visual appeal for their costumes comes from the 1990s. That's also why modern X-Men outfits have been resembling the 90s costumes once again recently.
