First Marvel Legends Spider-Man Retro Cardback Wave For 2025 Detailed Recap

Jay Cochran - December 08, 2024
As officially revealed on Friday, the first Marvel Legends Spider-Man Retro Cardback Wave for 2025 will be available for pre-order next week on Thursday December 12 at 1pm ET. These will be available at places like our sponsors BigBadToyStore.com and Entertainment Earth. This wave will include the following:

- Agent Venom (Flash Thompson) - This is an update to the 2014 Walgreens exclusive Agent Venom. This figure includes a riffle, pistol, working gun holster, masked head, unmasked Flash Thompson head, and 2 extra pairs of hands. The hips and joints have been updated from the original release. It does have pin-less arms and legs.

- Marvel's Chameleon (Animated Series) - This figure based on the Spider-Man: The Animated Series includes an extra set of hands, riffle and J.J. Jameson pulled off mask. He has a hand that looks like is activating his belt as seen in the cartoon and you also get the mask as a tribute to the original 5" Toy Biz figure. The figure has pin-less arms and legs.

- Electro (Francine Frye) - The figure includes extra hands and new large lightning effects with c-grips to go on the wrists. She is Tombstones daughter in the comics. The facial expression has a big menacing grin.

- Marvel's Kaine - This is an all-new sculpted figure and includes and extra pair of hands. He also has a wind-swept cape and features the pin-less arms and legs. In the comics Kaine is an imperfect clone of Peter Parker.

- Spider-Boy - The figure includes extra hands, extra fanged headsculpt and backpack. The extra hands are web-shooting hands even though the character does not shoot webs in the comics. This is the first kid-size body with pin-less arms and legs.

- Spider-Man Unlimited (Animated Series) - The figure includes two extra set of hands. It also has a web-cape and has pin-less arms and legs. This figure is based on the Spider-Man Unlimted Animated series that originally aired on FOX and was a continuation of the Spider-Man: The Animated Series where Peter ends up in an alternate dimension.

Finally up on Pulse.

I think the trade off there is that Pulse ALWAYS fill their orders and fill them on time. Unlike other sites like Amazon and BBTS I've never had an order canceled or put on infinite back order.

So, I'll preface this by saying that I generally use Pulse for any Hasbro order that isn't an exclusive, and I buy A LOT of Hasbro stuff. Generally speaking, I like them, but I have had my issues. On at least three occasions they've cancelled items on me during their big sales, even though I'd gotten my orders in pretty much the hour the sale kicked off, and then after several days they'd say "oops, we're out of stock". I mean yeah, you didn't fulfill it when I bought it, apparently allowed for more orders than you had items, and then cancelled it even though my order was in for days before the site flipped over to "out of stock." So I have a hard time trusting them on that score. That said, they've never argued with me about replacing something and when a sold-out Pulsecon exclusive vanished in the delivery process (GB Tully with Terror Dog) they replaced it without incident. Still wonder where that wound up going.

I have full confidence in any pre-order I get from Pulse.

Amazon, yeah I can't trust them for any pre-order that isn't an exclusive that I HAVE to trust them on, too many random cancellations there- while Big Bad has only cancelled items on me that involved unavoidable issues with the manufacturer, like when a company folds or, for example, when that "totally not Pitt you guys" Pitt figure got slapped with an injunction from the guy who owns Pitt. Also a random Lizard-Wave Spider-Man Noir, which sat on pre-order for like 2 years before one of us cancelled it. No other issues with Big Bad for me.

My issue with Pulse though, is that if an item is set to go up at a certain time, that time will always transform (and roll out!) into anything from 2 minutes after the hour to 20 minutes to 40 minutes to who knows what after the hour (and in this case, days apparently). It's just a roll of the dice when they'll manage to get it up on their site, whereas BB and EE have it up the second that clock rolls over. And you'd think that a billion-dollar company like Hasbro would be able to match something like "when the clock rolls over, this order page/update goes live," instead of giving the impression that the interns are running the website. A website which has been "updated" into an objective mess, I'm going to add.

So anyway, I put in an order of the Can't Miss/Likely to Sell Out ones with Big Bad (for now) and whenever Hasbro manages to put these up on their site, I'll order the rest. I'm excited for everyone in the wave here. Even the half-assed AoA Gambit. I hope they continue to trickle out the occasional AoA character (Bishop and Havok next? Wouldn't mind a Banshee, for that matter).

I love Pulse, but they aren't perfect.

I once got an empty box instead of two Classified Retro Lady Jays.

And they can be quite slow, particularly on GI Joe stuff. Their new site is also really, really bad.

You're right. I should have included the caveat that I'VE personally never had a problem with them getting my order right. I have heard some horror stories and personally I have a problem with their shipping policy and the price of the Plus membership so I do order from those OTHER vendors whenever possible. I'm hesitant to say anything else bad about them because some people have made it their sworn duty to hunt down and destroy anyone and their family who has the audacity to utter a bad word about Hasbro or Pulse. LOL. I'll leave it at that.

Then they make sure to set aside enough to fill their own orders before doling out whatever's left for the other vendors to fill theirs. I've had too many orders canceled by Amazon or put on back order from BBT or EE to count. Never has Pulse screwed up a order.

Bizarre. Why is Hasbro so incapable of getting its act together for its own site? They're almost always the last ones to put something up, whereas everyone else is ready to go the moment the clock strikes. I've never understood why they don't put the resources in to their direct portal for sales to the masses when they're the largest figure distributor not named Amazon.

There is a backend problem with the site.

Hour and a half in and not on PULSE? This is a Fan Chanel release is it not?

That's what they said. I went ahead and ordered Marrow and Gambit via BBTS.
