Hasbro revealed the first figure in their new
Marvel Legends Maximum Series which is Spider-Man. This figure was said to be an all-new sculpt and the most articulated Spider-Man figure has done to date along with it being packed with a bunch of accessories. See the official description and images from Hasbro below.
While the figure is slated to go up for pre-order next month on February 13, they have not yet revealed what the price will be for this new figure. So taking what we think would be the highest MSRP price Hasbro would charge for this one which is $49.99, we have launched a
new POLL on our forums below asking a simple yes or no answer. Will you pay that much for it?
Keep in mind no matter how you answer, the price for this figure has already been set, so it's not going to change even if you say no. This is just an informal poll to gauge our own readers on how much interest there is for a figure like this if it costs $49.99.

As I suspected, no amount of this isn't worth the price, or Let's say no with our wallet, was going to stop this figure from Pre-selling out at a vast majority of places, within an hour (In Canada), I'm seeing this figure getting a sweeping thumbs up (based on pre-sellouts). It's already on the "OMG where did this go list?, I missed out!".....as I predicted.
Ain't no stopping a Spider-Man!

To me it's like deal with the devil, we who placed pre order might be getting what we want, at least in theory, but we are getting really horrible practice of normalizing such ridiculous pricing, I'm sure it was marketing team that forced that price despite Hasbro ML team suggesting something lower, same way they did with Spider-Man PS5 game figure that was also ridiculously expensive.
It ended up being $70 Canadian which was $10 less then I thought it would be, but still not getting it. My figures just go on display and my old McFarlane Spiderman from ToyBiz looks just fine.
You know what... This is some real 'garbage'. The giant sploog glob gets a stand, but no stand for Spider-Man?

I think it would have been a slam-dunk at $39.99, but I still think, with all of the accessories and display options, the value is there, Hasbro has tried to get us to buy a whole additional figure that's barely different for one accessory or new head- even if it's slightly pricey, this is a better option than buying, say, 4 Spideys for $100.00. I also think that this line is a great concept, and I want it to continue. Since it's Spider-Man, I doubt it will get marked down, either. That being said, I am not necessarily "all in" for this line at $49.99, and which figures I buy at full price will depend on a case-by-case basis. Like many, Spidey is my favorite Marvel hero, so this was an easy choice. Whether I buy future figures in the series will depend on how much "newness" and value they bring to the table.
I agree, $39.99 would have been a slam dunk. I would have picked it up at that price. I'll probably only buy it now only if it ever goes on sale.
I ended up buying it.
I have a feeling it will be selling at 2x its value by the end of the year unless they make more. The demand was impressive at this price point.
And, frankly, this felt like a much better deal than Phoenix at $50+ (although I didn't pay that for her).

But that aside, if this ends being a definitive Spider-Man figure, I could acquiesce under the assumption that this would be my forever spidey
The thing is, with some exceptions, we are also getting less in each category than we did 5 years ago. So, regular figures are $24.99-$25.99 USD, but fewer of them come with BAFs, and fewer of them come with a lot of accessories, or intricate paint jobs. Hasbro seems to be fixing that a bit, but for a while, it felt like a majority of figures would just come with one extra set of hands, and maybe one other accessory. When it comes to Spideys, in particular, Hasbro has been cheap about painting all of the lines on his costumes. I definitely don't think this is a steal, but compared to $24.99 Spideys with unpainted details with a couple of hands, I think the price is consistent, at least.

Especially when you consider this is half the price of the GI Joe VAMP. I get that Spidey is an A-list character, and is pretty much guaranteed to sell, but I still feel that Hasbros pricing is a bit unbalanced when you compare the two items I am describing. There is no way that 2 of these Spider-man figures is equivalent to a VAMP set. Im content with the Spider-man Ive got though, so I suppose it doesnt really matter, but I am more so sharing my thoughts on Hasbros pricing.
The big difference is that Hasbro owns GI Joe, so there are no licensing fees- that's one of the reasons that Joes tend to come with so many more accessories than Marvel Legends. If The VAMP was a licensed Marvel item, it would cost notably more. I don't like it, but it makes business sense, and it is what it is.
