Announced earlier today, fans will be able to revisit Spider-Man: The Animated Series this September in SPIDER-MAN ’94, a new comic series that delivers an all-new adventure set in the world of the iconic ‘90s show! The five-issue limited series will be written by legendary Spider-Scribe J.M. DeMatteis and drawn by rising star artist Jim Towe (X-Force).
Premiering in 1994 and running for five seasons, Spider-Man: The Animated Series is considered one the most popular animated comic book adaptions of all time. The hit series ended with Spider-Man entering the multiverse to save Mary Jane. Now, nearly thirty years later, this cliffhanger is officially resolved as the SPIDER-MAN ’94 comic book series continues with storytelling set after the dramatic final episode. The saga will also introduce the animated universe’s versions of comic book characters that never appeared in the original series.

“The 1990s Spider-Man animated series has become a beloved part of Spidey lore—it was the introduction to Peter Parker and his universe for an entire generation—and I’m delighted to be diving back into that universe,” DeMatteis told IGN. “We’re treating this as the next season of the show, which means introducing new villains, new challenges, new adventures for Peter—while doing our best to remain true to the creative spirit that John Semper and company established with the original show.”

Unlimited does feature musical score from 90s show but aside from that there's little connection, however, Dan Slot did say that he considers them to be the same universes, but canon is whatever people in charge say it is so...

It's considered a loose sequel to it. Tenuous at best but it was intended to pick up where the 90s show left off while not really following every plot from it. I was not impressed much with it when it first came out after a few episodes since I had been stuck on my highest setting with the 90s show.

Reminds me of the joke that doing a custom Marvel Legends will result in Hasbro making an official release. I get a chuckle out of thinking that somebody in editorial is trying to jinx it on purpose, so making this comic will manifest a revival of the show into the reality.

I feel like we are getting this because Disney isn't interested in another Spider-Man series until Your Friendly Neighborhood is finished, so until that there's no way they are green lighting new revival of old marvel tv show, maybe they are even waiting for X-Men 97 to end. So Marvel saw opportunity to cash in on people who want to see the "finale" in comics form until the actual finale will be shown in the future and make this comic book not a canon.
Semper did release a statement stating he wasn't happy about not being consulted (again) but at least trusted J.M. DeMatteis who did work on the animated series.
Still this will be as canon as X-Men'92. But I'm still going to pick it up
