He is Asian; in his original origin story,he's a descendant ofGenghis Khan. He was born in pre-revolutionary China, to a father who was a wealthy land baron and a mother who was an Englishnoblewoman. While that could account for his appearance (think Chloe Bennet), he's almost always been drawn with a "traditional" Asian look. Over the years, though, its clear that many Marvel artists just have a hard time getting those facial features correct.
At the same time hasbo did a much better job with Jubilee and Psylocke; they also got the MCU Shang-Chi line facial figures right.
Bottom line though, they blew it. Should have had a classic figure Mandarin here, and given the fans what they actually want. I myself am passing on this set; I think this is one that is destined for discount bin.

Plus, if they are going to be fighting, some dynamics to their cloaks, hair, ties ect. Is nice imo. Mr Negative, for example, is a boring figure because there is no movement to him, no matter how you pose him. He should be exuding power! You and I always differ on opinion when it comes to this subject, not that one is right or wrong, but I personally like the trend as it adds dynamics to posing.
Carol must have some terrible hair days if she can't even stand still without her hair flying around.

Mandarin's tie only makes sense if he's standing in heavy wind. It's like Rogue and Shanna's hair. Miss Marvel and Dark Warbird. And a ton of others. I don't like this trend very much.

Mandarin was once one of Marvel's upper tier baddies- right up there with Dr. Doom, Kang, Red Skull, Loki....sad to see him get nerfed like this. This look isn't hasbo's fault, but a man in a suit going up against an armored powerhouse like Iron Man....not good optics. His classic look would've been so much better. AND they could have given him soft goods robe. AND how cool would it have been if they used Iron Man's actual Mark III armor (the first red and gold, with the points on the visor mask), Shame.

Yeah I'm just so disappointed, I was looking forward to finally getting a good mandarin, I knew this was the one we'd get, But I was holding on to hope we'd have gotten something classic or atleast in a costume, but as much of a bummer it is, I guess we can't change anything.
Maybe we can still get a actual Mandarin we all want in a retro card wave...but I got doubts on that one.

That's what I thought when I saw it too. Tony with long hair. I can't unsee it. I need a masked head for just that reason, or I guess that I'll roll with the alternate crazy old man head. More likely I'll just stick with my Toy Biz Face Off traffic cone version.

He is Asian. He was imprisoned for a while and eventually escape and got younger.

Oh No. This suit version of Mandarin totally stinks. Unacceptable. Easy pass. A classic Silver or Bronze age look with masked and unmasked head with multiple posed ringed hands (and effect pieces) would've met nearly everyone's expectation. Shame on you Hasbro for this absolutely lazy effort. Collectors know you can do way better.

Of course this was the Mandarin we got after all of this time, I knew this was the version they'd give us, what a lame let down, most boring look for Mandarin we could get, I just don't understand why we can't get a Mandarin worth looking at, and this comes with a super boring we already got his Iron Man, wow Hasbruds, this must be a ghost house cause all I hear is Boooos, That being said....And I'm not happy about this, I will buy this for that Mandarin, yeah they got me, I hate myself for it, I just want a Mandarin, but really like come on? you hardly tried...

Manadrin looks so........PEDESTRIAN here.Hasbro can do Shaman, they can do Mephisto ( they can do all kinds of other culturally-appropriated/questionably-themed characters)........but they get skittish with Mandarin.Don't dance around it, Hasbro........embrace the character,
