Last week we
reported that Fox was in talks with Bryan Singer to return to the world of X-Men and direct the next movie based on the mutant super hero team from Marvel. Now
Deadline has reported that Fox has closed the deal with Singer, the man who brought us the first two X-Men feature films to direct the next X-Men movie which is being called "X-Men: Days Of Future Past."
The movie will reunite Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence from the last X-Men film, First Class for this next movie. Fox is aiming for a July 18, 2014 release date. Matthew Vaughn who directed First Class is said to be close to closing a deal to produce this one along with writer Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
The only thing the Deadline article says about the script is that it is already done for Fox. Based on the title for the movie it would seem likely that the story will at least be loosely based on the classic Marvel Comics storyline of the same name which was originally done by writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne. The comics told a story set in a futuristic timeline about a dystopian future where giant robot Sentinels walked the Earth hunting and killing mutants including most of the X-Men.
