Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Says They Have Movies Planned Out Till 2028

Yesterday Bloomberg Businessweek ran an interview with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige where he revealed to them that the studio had a plan to roll-out Marvel movies well into the future, 2028 to be exact.

There’s a map of films reaching far into the next decade on the wall of Feige’s office. “It’s like looking through the Hubble telescope. You go, ‘What’s happening back there? I can sort of see it,’ ” he laughs. “They printed out a new one recently that went to 2028.”

Honestly I am not sure why this is surprising to so many. Having a time-line that maps out what a business hopes to accomplish down the road is only good business and I am sure Feige and all of Marvel Studio's hopes to be able to make Marvel based movies indefinitely incorporating every Marvel Universe character ever created if possible. Of course this will in large part be determined how successful the current release of movies continue to do. There is little doubt movies like Avengers 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier which opens today will continue to do well for the studio, but the real test in my opinion will come when we see how lesser known Marvel characters like Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man and even Doctor Strange which has been rumored to be coming do. Sure hard-core comic book fans will likely go see all these movies but the real question is, will the casual movie goer? Only time will tell.

Oh and for those who keep hoping the license rights for properties like Spider-Man and X-Men which are currently held by other studios will revert back to Marvel anytime soon, Feige says in the article that doesn't seem likely.

He concedes that Marvel won’t recover the film rights to Spider-Man or the X-Men anytime soon but says Marvel has something more valuable: a universe of thousands of characters it controls entirely.
