Amazing Spider-Man 2 Opening Falls Short Of Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Sony's Amazing Spider-Man 2 had one of the strongest domestic openings of the year with an estimated take of $92 million this weekend, however that was just short of the Marvel Studio's Captain America: The Winter Soldier which opened in theaters last month with a $95 million weekend opening.

Compared to other Spider-Man movie openings, this one had the lowest. The original Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie which also opened in the same time frame of early May brought in $114.8 million, and it didn't have the benefit of larger venues or 3D ticket sales like the movies of today.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 did have a better opening than Marvel's Thor: The Dark World which brought in $85.7 and it has been doing pretty good overseas where it has already brought in $277 million, and has a good chance of matching its the first Amazing Spider-Man's $490 million total.
