Yesterday it was announced that Marvel Studios would be releasing a stand-alone film based on their character
The Black Panther, which is slated to hit theaters on
November 3, 2017 as part of their third phase of cinematic movies. The movie will star
Chadwick Boseman (42), who will play the lead character of
T'Challa/Black Panther, a king of a fictional African nation known as
Wakanda.
Deadline now reports that the actor has signed on with Marvel for a five picture deal, which is said to begin with the third Captain America movie titled
"Captain America: Civil War", a movie that will see Avengers members
Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) go against
Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). That movie will open in theaters on
May 6, 2016.
In the comic books Wakanda is a technologically advance nation, and the location for the largest known source of the fictional metal known as
Vibranium. The rare metal is unique because of it's ability to be able to absorb all forms of kinetic type energy and redirect it. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this metal is the primary material used in the construction of Captain America's shield, which has been seen damaged in the recent
Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser trailer.
It should also be noted that in the comics, Vibranium is the source of power for another Marvel character known as
Ulysses Klaw, one of Black Panther's arch-enemies. It has been rumored that Klaw might be played by actor
Andy Serkis, who does have some kind of role in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie.
