Fox Moving Forward With Gambit Spin-Off Film Starring Channing Tatum

October 31, 2014

Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox has hired Robocop scribe Josh Zetumer to write the screenplay for a spin-off film based on the Cajun Mutant Gambit. Channing Tatum will star in the lead role and also produce it along with Free Association partner Reid Carolin, The Donners Company’s Lauren Shuler Donner, and Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg.

They also say the screenplay will be based on a treatment written by X-Men comic book writer Chris Claremont who helped create the character along with artist Jim Lee in the 90s. No word on when the movie will be released, though it would seem likely after the next X-Men movie titled X-Men: Apocalypse which Gambit is rumored to appear in. That movie is slated to be released in theaters on May 27, 2016.
