In light of the recent firing of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn, Disney has opted to put production of the movie which was said to begin shortly on hold for now as they begin looking for a new replacement director. According to
THR, this is being done more for regrouping purposes than anything else. The movie was slated for a 2020 release but an actual date had yet to be set by the studio, so it's unknown how much of a delay this regrouping will cause for the movie's actual release.
Rumors have suggested that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is being strongly considered as Gunn's replacement.
Gunn was fired last month for old inappropriate tweets he had made on Twitter several years ago in regards to rape and pedophilia that the director has claimed where just bad jokes. Despite an open letter put out by the cast of the movie asking Disney to reconsider their decision to fire Gunn, the studio recently stated they will be standing by their decision. All the cast have remained silent on the matter since then except for Dave Bautista (Drax), who has been shooting out tweets attacking his employer for the decision. In one tweet he posted "Thanks @Disney !! Making America great again" and more recently on Thursday he tagged Disney in a tweet featuring disturbing clips of Mike Cernovich, one of the conservative figures responsible for bringing the old tweets to light that got Gunn fired. Disney has had no comment in regards to the disgruntled actor at this point.

They should just hire Taika and get thsi over with pronto.
Gunn is not coming back and they are absolutely right in not re-hiring him.
GotG is a necessary movie franchise for the MCU, but can easily be shuffled up to be released a little later with not a huge consequence. Probably after Avengers 4 everything will change anyway.
Those guys have to man up and go for it.
I really don't care either way disney is really screwing the MCU up either way. Before long we will be comparing them to them to the dreaded fox movies.
Ya, the guy who got kicked outta the WWE for incessant whining is about to find out how easily crossing Disney can get you blackballed in Hollywood. Just shut the hell up, Dave. The media pretty much whitewashed most of the tweets that were uncovered, but anyone who cares to look into it will find exactly what kind of depraved smut Gunn was really tweeting. It goes waaaaay beyond trying to be "provaocative", it was downright sick, psychotic, narcissistic, sociopathic illness. The next "funny" pedophilia joke will be the firstand the day that kinda vile behavior can be brushed off as "all in good fun" is the day I lose hope for this world.
It's not all about the movie. Theres a line of common decency that's too far to cross and he did it. I'm all for freedom of speech, but I'm also about consequences for your words. Every part of life has them.Deal with them.
There are plenty of great directors who can carry this trilogy into the end zone. Just keep Kevin Smith & effing Brett Ratner as far the hell away from any other Marvel property as possible.
